Returning: Before the Game

With the exit of Pete Helliar to Seven, Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald becomes a full member of Before the Game when it returns later this month.

Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald will become a full member of Before the Game when it returns to Channel TEN later this month.

The former AFL and Big Brother personality has been a part-time roving reporter with the show but presumably has been elevated with the exit of Pete Helliar to Seven. He has also been a contributor to The 7pm Project.

Dave Hughes, Mick Molloy, Andrew Maher, Sam Lane and ‘Lehmo’ all return to the show when it resumes on Saturday March 27th.

Molloy’s return does not rule out potential projects which have been floated with Nine.

Produced by Roving Enterprises, the show is back for its eighth season with TEN airing at 6:30pm in Melbourne, 5:30pm Adelaide and 4pm in Perth.

It can be seen at 12:30am Sunday 28th in Brissy and 1:00am in Sydney.

  1. fitz is about as funny as a wet blanket, so he will fit right in on the unfunny show. i see vixen is still on the show with maher as well. hughes has never been good for this show

  2. Hope we get Before the Game and One Week at a Time on ONE HD at the same time it is broadcast in Melbourne.

Any word on what Channel 9 is doing the AFL Footy Show and Footy Classified? Last year we got both programs on Nine HD in Sydney. What is the purpose of Nine HD if it only simulcasts Channel 9. Any chance we may get both shows on GO!

  3. @Lewis,

Helliar won’t be doing Strauchanie, on his new show. Instead, he will introduce three or four new comedy characters, according to a Channel 7 release when first announcing the new show.

  4. Trent, I recall reading somewhere that One Week at a time returns to ONE HD Monday 29th March 2010.

Not sure about Thursday Night Live but would imagine it being scheduled to return Thursday 25th March, as the kick off to the season starts that evening with Richmond vs Carlton.

  5. Not sure who is worse Hellier or “fitzy” both are hacks.

I enjoy BTG but there are so many freakin Carlton fans it’s annoying. Hughsie is great but Sam Lane and Andy “you blokes” Maher get up my nose. Molloy is good also and being a Richmond fan he stirs up the blues mafia which is fun to watch.

  6. @Sam and Trent: last year Before the Game was shown on One in Sydney and Brisbane at the same time as Melbourne. You would think it will be the same this year.

  7. Is Before the Game on ONE HD at the same time?

While we’re on the topic of sporting programs, does anyone know if and when One Week at a Time and Thursday Night Live are returning to ONE HD
