Wayne Carey for ONE footy panel

The former AFL footballer will fill in on ONE HD's One Week At A Time panel show in a fortnight, with the possibility of an expanded role with the network.

Matthew Johns is back, Kyle Sandilands is back and now Wayne Carey is on the return.

The Herald Sun reports the former AFL footballer will fill in for Robert Walls on ONE HD’s One Week At A Time panel show in a fortnight, but is also likely to win an expanded football role with the network.

Carey was dumped by Nine’s Footy Classfied in 2008 amid the fallout from an arrest for assaulting girlfriend Kate Neilson.

He followed that with an interview with Andrew Denton.

TEN’s head of football David Barham told the newspaper he football community was ready to listen to Carey once more.

“We are doing a football show. I think everyone wants to see Wayne Carey on a football show,” he said.

“It will be fantastic to have him back on TV, and we are rapt to be able to do it. Everyone is keen to listen to what Wayne has to say.”

A year ago when plugging his autobiography on The Footy Show, Carey said, “Really, I think probably two nights before I went on the Denton show I was probably drunk. And really went on there still emotionally unfit.”

One Week At A Time returned to ONE last night.

  1. Walls is going o/seas for two weeks to attend the Golf. And as for Carey, I welcome him back, his football knowledge/comments are far better than a lot of others going around in the media today.

I am truly sick of all the outrage/comments/ACA/newsfeeds as a result of this decision…. Wayne is doing what he does best…talking footy. Give him a break OK.

And for those that want to continue bagging him, take some time out to read his book… you may change your mind about a few things.

  2. Good. Get rid of Robert Walls entirely, even though i’m not a big fan of Carey he’s a good commentator. He was better than Grant Thomas on Footy Classified too.

  3. My bet is that he will stay with the show as a permanent panel member. Nothing wrong about hearing his point of view on a Monday after the round.
I would rather not see him on any match day coverage, however.
