  1. At first it looks like a big gap between NRL & AFL (123k) but I assume the 721k for NRL counts BVOD?

So without it it’s 634k NRL vs 598k AFL. NRL still has more but it’s pretty competitive and a rare win for NRL. They would be happy that it upstaged the start of Gather Round for AFL.

David do you known when the last time NRL had more than AFL? I assume it happened sometime last year too

      1. NRL was on Nine’s main channel in Melbourne (as Storm were playing) as well as in Sydney + Brisbane, but AFL was on 7-Mate in Sydney + Brisbane. So this would have boosted Nine’s figures. Neither AFL teams playing last night were from NSW/Qld so those states would have had low interest in Channel 7 coverage.
I betcha Melbourne’s NRL audience was pretty good as we are sports mad here!

        1. According to Mediaspy

In Sydney: The NRL had 201,000 with AFL on 14,000

In Melbourne: The NRL had 29,000 with AFL on 226,000

In Brisbane: The NRL had 204,000 with AFL on 13,000.

          1. 29,000 viewers on Nine’s main channel in Melbourne for local team Storm? That’s a terrible result! Considering a multi-channel 7mate in Sydney and Brisbane regularly gets 60,000-80,000+ for local Swans and Lions in the AFL. I’d suggest then, given the Broncos, Brisbane especially and regional Queensland & NSW would’ve been where the audience came from, as well as that impressive 80k on 9Now. AFL was impacted by WA’s current time zone, a small Melbourne club and yes no Sydney or Qld teams. Still, a high result for the NRL and encouraging for ARL, Nine and Foxtel, one of their better results in recent years/memory.
