Eddie “sick of being bagged” by Nine commentator

Eddie McGuire was  clearly frustrated on Melbourne radio this morning when he delivered a right of reply to comments made by Age sports journalist and Footy Classified commentator Caroline Wilson.

Wilson had criticised the Collingwood President on the Nine AFL panel show last night.

After calling her claims fabricated and questioning her sources, McGuire said: “I tell you what, I’m getting a bit sick of her bagging me on me own channel, too.”

He joked that, “I might make a phone call about her today, too. Get her sacked.”

His TripleM colleagues laughed at what was clearly a jibe, but McGuire wasn’t laughing over Wilson’s broadside on the AFL show which airs in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Wilson had criticised McGuire’s handling of an on-field spray involving Collingwood coach, Mick Malthouse. But McGuire sought to set the record straight.

“I’ll give you the inside tip. Nobody at Collingwood talks to Caroline Wilson,” he said.

“She declared war on me 18 months ago, saying I shouldn’t be at Collingwood and all this sort of stuff.”

Last night Wilson conceded she has been accused of being critical of McGuire in the past.

“I know I’m often seen to be anti-Eddie,” she acknowledged, but that didn’t stop her from holding back with her assessment of Collingwood’s handling of what has been the week’s biggest AFL story.

McGuire was CEO of Nine from 2006 – 2007.

  1. A good read in light of what’s happened 6 years later. Maybe you should replay this story. It shows how far back the animosity between Caro and Eddy goes back.

  2. Been a member of Collingwood for 25 years and i must agree, Eddy just anoy’s me up the wall. Seems good for the club but has turned everyone else against us.

    My friends have gone from not caring to hating collingwood thanks to eddy.

  4. I honestly can’t stand Eddie.I am not normally home when his show airs or on days If I am I often finding myself watching ABC Kids offerings at that time of night even though well beyond their targeted age group.

  5. I’m on Caroline’s side on this one.
    I watched Footy Classified the other night and I completely agree with what she said.
    Eddie McGuire and his beloved Magpies should just shut their mouths.
    What makes him (and his club for that matter) that special?

  6. Caroline Wilson has had an obsession with criticising Eddie for many years so I guess he’s going to have to put up with her. And to Jaye, for your information the Footy Show ratings since Eddie left are the lowest in the show’s history. Don’t let your bias get in the way of facts!

    I also subcribe to the theory that if you got rid of McChins the ratings would probably go up. Didn’t that happen with the AFL Footy Show?

  8. Eddie McGuire makes me sick. I like watching his early show, but have to mute it as I cannot bear to hear his voice – but I like the questions. How sad is that?

  10. With the amount of people Eddie annoys (from the South Australian football fans to the gay community) it’s actually quite suprising people actually still listen to his radio show. Out of Melbourne everyone thinks he is a complete w*nker.
