Gone: Cougar Town, How I Met Your Mother.

Following on from The Bounce, Seven's Thursday nights get a major overhaul as Cougar Town and How I Met Your Mother are yanked.

When the boss of the network reckons a show is “shit” (his words not mine) it’s a big ask for the rest of the country to support it.

Seven has pulled Cougar Town and How I Met Your Mother from its Thursday line-up effective immediately.

They will be replaced by repeats of Criminal Minds. Added to Wednesdays, that means it’s now repeating twice a week.

With The Bounce also pulled from some cities, Thursdays have had a major overhaul by Seven.

9:30 The Amazing Race (new)
10:30 FlashForward (new)
11:30 American Dad rpt

7TWO will also be pulling Heartbeat from 7:30 Thursdays to be replaced by Airline USA from May 6. May have been too similar to Vicar of Dibley audience and splits the Seven audience.

No word on when or where the two US comedies will resume.

  1. With no new of when or even if these show will be returning soon it will just mean they will go else where for them, then when they come back they will get lower ratings, and the cycle will continue!

  2. not happy. been to this site for years and this is the first time that an axed show has affected me. stupid channel 7 dont care about demos. at least wait a week to see if it was the bounce that affected the figures, this move is a mistake imo.besides from friday nights crappy delayed footy matches, cougar town and himym were the only times i switched to 7.

  3. This is a bad call in my opinion. I really enjoy both those shows. It wasn’t a good sign when they did a How I Met Your Mother ‘marathon’ last week :o(

  4. I can’t believe the way Australian TV networks treat their audiences. Why show reruns of TV shows when they could try something new. It’s demeaning to Australians. Why can’t there be some rule where networks have to tell the audience that the episode has previously been shown?? How ridiculous showing a 15 year old comedy in primetime when they have so much they could show (30 Rock, Parks & Rec etc). Americans would never be treated like this by their networks. Shame Seven Shame.

  5. I can’t understand why they ran HIMYM at 7pm over summer where it gained a strong family audience and then dumped it in an adult slot. Makes no sense.

  6. And they just promoted Lisa Kudrow with “In the coming weeks”, also Sheryl Crow is set to feature soon and TV Week just had a write up about the show. Guess if this was Nine they would just show those eps and skip the other.

Hope Cougar Town comes back soon, along with HIMYM, not good Seven!

  7. It’s getting harder and harder to do the right thing and follow the australian networks showings of the programs rather than by viewing shows by other means. I understand that they want to have the highest ratings etc but between that and not starting shows on time (anyone else miss the last 5 or so minutes of underbelly who uses IQ? Even recording 10mins before and after it wasnt enough to get the whole show).

I’m pretty sure channel 10 replays “Mean Girls” each year more times than they see shows through at a reasonable weeknight time (up to 10:30/11pm),

Is it possible to get a majority of the stations in the US via satellite here?

  8. cougar would fit in at 10:30 on either sunday, monday or tuesday. HIMYM will be a bit harder to slot in anywhere. it probably won’t be back for a while but the ratings it was getting would not be a cause to rush it back to air. bu the new lineup should rate much better vicar of dibley is a great show.

  9. So the How I Met Your Motherathon on last weekend was in preparation for bumping it maybe? Seems suspiciously timed otherwise. Shame, it’s still one of the more enjoyable comedies on at the moment.

    1. The HIMYM marathon was in response to bumping FlashForward to 10:30, ahead of The Amazing Race starting this week. It was done before they saw the latest figures. Once they saw those on Friday they removed The Bounce and these comedies too.

  10. They should move Cougar Town to Sundays 10:30 when Scrubs has finished but How I Met Your Mother was the number 3 show for 16-39 last Thursday night behind only Masterchef and Nine’s Footy show. So I say Move Mother to 8:30 and try 30 Rock or Parks and Recreation at 9:00.

  11. I am outraged.

They show 3 How I Met Your Mother episodes in a row on one night and then pull it the next week.

    I mean, what the?

I was glad it was on FTA.

I wish channel 7 would ask us first. “Do you want HIMYM off the air” and we would all say “No”. Maybe the people who watch the show don’t have that little black box that record the raitings and the people who do, don’t watch the show so it’s not fair to take it off air based on raitings alone.

    Ask the viewing public.

  12. Dam it. just as thursday was about to become my favourite night of TV with
    7.30 MasterChef
    8:00 Glee
9:00 How I Met your Mother
    9:30 The Footy Show (AFL)

now theres nothing to fill the gap between Glle and Mother. They should of left it at 9pm as they might of had alot of younger audience flip over post Glee.

  13. According to promos airing on Seven, TAR will be shown in Melbourne at 9.45pm Thursdays.
Cougar Town had such a poor lead-in and struggled at the 8.30pm timeslot except for the first episode, so its removal was to be expected. But why pull HIMYM from the schedule as well? With Brothers & Sisters and Private Practice finishing soon, I think CT could be moved to 9.30pm Mondays or Tuesdays.
