Jacki Mac too ill for Hey Hey

First it was the show's website, then Susan Boyle, then Wolfmother ..... now Jacki MacDonald is a Hey Hey cancellation.

First it was the show’s website, then Susan Boyle, then Wolfmother, and the website again …. now Jacki MacDonald is a Hey Hey It’s Saturday cancellation, according to the Courier Mail. At least for tonight.

The beloved gal has come down with a bout of flu and was forced to cancel, which will make tonight’s Chooklotto segment rather interesting (Livinia you’re on!).

But MacDonald is looking forward to guest appearances on the show.

“For me, it’s a bit like rushing off to a dinner party, laughing and saying ‘that was fabulous, see you all, bye!’,” she told the newspaper. “I don’t want a career. I’ve got a career looking after my kids and things and I’m happy with it.”

She also quashed any rumours that she and Daryl Somers had had a falling out.

“I never had an argument with Daggy in my whole life.”

Also appearing tonight is David Campbell, set to sing three numbers from his Broadway album with a full orchestra.

Meanwhile we’re still waiting to find out who is replacing Molly Meldrum. The “Melodrama” segment wasn’t featured last week.

  1. David, I’ve been thinking… [look out!] I wonder if Nine could bite the bullet and introduce a ‘monthly event’ type of thing, where they really ‘show’ something at its best, once a month only & go for quality over quantity. eg. Hey Hey on maybe the first Saturday of each month, which more people might watch because it wouldn’t just be on again next week, plus the guest list might be more substantial and therefore more attractive to more viewers. Other ‘monthly events’ could include local music festival & concert footage, or a monthly UFC Fight Night, or WWE etc or whatever it is people today class as ‘must-see’ television. iPhone Wars perhaps.

  2. Chook Lotto-because Jacki was unable to come, Darryl chose a audience member to help with it-he even said “come on down” with Price is right style music.

  3. Did anyone think it was embarrassing and probably offensive when during Plucka Duck, John Blackman said something along the lines of “More like double D’s” when they were talking about Suze Raymond wearing a loincloth like it was “something something BC”… you could see the look on her face, not really sure what to do, thinking she’s just there to be treated like a piece of meat.

  4. I think the show is a lot of fun. It is great to see live bands and vocalists on telly again. Who cares is there are a couple of cancellations, there are others to take their place. Enjoy the fun .. forget the other stuff. You whingers need to get a life!

  5. Nine are unbelievable. At 7:34pm tonight (last adblock of Two and a half men) Nine Brisbane will still advertising that Jacki is on tonights episode.

  6. Hmm. as Patrick said.. whatever happened to the Molly replacement I wonder? Never ended up seeing Dicko there. Strange.

Anyway, just heard that Ricki Lee and Gabriella Cilmi will be on tonight’s show as well.

  7. No I’m not a fan of Skype interviews either. Doing interviews by Skype just screams too much like “oh look we’re so edgy and so 2010” but doesn’t really deliver the quality that viewers expect. Surely 9 has enough infrastructure in place to have a direct studio link to QTQ or be able to send an OB van outside Jacki’s house of something… she’s only in Queensland not in Siberia…

  8. Surely Dicko would make a good replacement for Molly?

Wasn’t he supposed to be replacing him?

Last week’s Hey Hey was a very poor effort. The team need to lift their game or they won’t see out their 20 episode season order…..

  9. Looking forward to seeing Ossie again tonight, but really we don’t need Chook Lotto. Plucka Duck replaced that… Chook Lotto was on way way back, it wasn’t part of it anymore when Hey Hey was last properly on, so just leave it with Plucka Duck.

  10. Okay so what giant block letters falling from the sky will they play on the ads now that Jacki’s dropped out?

Jacki’s slack. um. Jacki’s back… in bed because she’s feeling under the weather.

  11. If this dips below a million which I can see happening, then surely some hard decisions will need to be made, I fear that it might happen tonight….

We need a show like this on TV, but again, why have David Campbell sing 3 songs from his show – cmon, this is bloody ridiculous…. it just seems that its an exercise is taking the record companies money..

They need big name international guests!

  12. You can also add INXS to the list – they where on the ad for tonight’s show late last week, then disappeared. Also Ozzie was on the ad too – will he be on the show?

  13. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this plays out tonight. I know it’s not their fault, but a lot of viewers will feel that they are going to be cheated every week. No Wolfmother, No Susan Boyle, No Jacki.

I think Livinia should take this occurrence as an opportunity to step up and play a more active role in the show, which I would like. All she’s really done this year is read out e-mails. Didn’t she have her own segment back in 1999?

  14. Another cancellation is not what they need right now. Things are looking a bit grim. Maybe if they do come back for the second part of the season in September they won’t have such stiff competition.

I think they need to settle down a bit and not try to put so many segments into a show. Plucka Duck replaced Chooklotto, but now they want to do both? Plucka and Red Faces take up about half the show. I’m enjoying the multiple musical acts per show. But then the remainder is all Celebrity Head, Russell Gilbert’s bit, and any of 2 dozen other segments they used to run. Why not cut some games and do some interviews like they used to?

Also their rehearsed comedy bits have failed both weeks– the iPhone apps and the Angel/volcano bit last week. I think they are a lot funnier when they are not so reheasred.
