Vale: Corin Redgrave

British actor Corin Redgrave, one of the Redgrave dynasty, has died peacefully at home aged 70.

With a career spanning stage, film and TV, he was the son of Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, the brother of Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave, father of actor Jemma Redgrave and uncle of the late Natasha Richardson.

His numerous TV appearances included Lynda La Plante’s Trial and Retribution, Foyle’s War, Spooks, Waking the Dead, Shameless, Shackleton, The Forsyte Saga and, just last year, he appeared in an adaptation of The Turn of the Screw.

His stage career included work for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, winning an Olivier award in 1998. His film work included Oh! What a Lovely War, A Man for All Seasons, Persuasion and playing the hapless, stuffy husband Hamish in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

He was also a passionate activist campaigning for the Workers Revolutionary Party, supporter of Palestine and spoke out on the need to close Guantánamo Bay.

Redgrave had battled on against ill health for a number of years. He overcame prostate cancer and in 2005 survived a serious heart attack.
