Talk of Alias remake

Now there is talk of a new version of Alias that would borrow some elements of the original series.

The gap between a show ending and being ripe for remakes is shrinking.

Now there is talk that ABC is said to be considering doing a new version of Alias that would borrow some elements of the original series.

But the series would most likely not include any sort of complex mythological throughline.

According to a source, ABC is hoping to hold onto its lost Lost audience with a re-envisioned J.J. Abrams series, in light of FlashForward not working out so well.

Abrams has developed a new spy series for NBC in Undercovers, about a retired spy couple who gets back into the espionage game after opening a catering business.

Next rumour? A remake of Lost in chronological order?

  1. What has happened to ABC? They cancel shows that actually had originality and quality (Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone) and lose Lost – and in their place commission doomed-from-the-start-to-fail shows like the abominable FlashForward (which I called “doomed” right from the first episode) and the amateur-drama remake of V.

Remaking Alias without Abrams? They might as well just put the millions in a box and set it on fire.

  2. @Guy – I’d be curious to see a Sydney’s daughter spin-off, but otherwise they would be insane to do this for all the reasons mentioned; 24 comparisons during its run, Undercovers being greenlit, too many comparable series around now.

    What a stupid idea!

  3. God i am a huge Alias fan and i was pi**ed when it was cancelled. I believe it was one season too soon but as to the remake, i would like a spinoff which features Sydney’s daughter. That is something i have always imagined happening and maybe it could.

As for Undercovers i dont think it will do that well to tell you the truth. It is a blatent rip off of the movie Mr and Mrs Smith and has a mix of this Alias vibe to it. I will watch it and see how it goes but yeah i like my idea of the Alias spinoff with Sydney’s daughter.

  4. @Next rumour? A remake of Lost in chronological order?

Or how about every time they introduce a new mystery, they explain two existing ones.

  5. That shrinking gap is ridiculous. far too soon. The original had great stunts and a filmic quality. I know we are advancing in technology faster these days, but there is no need for a remake so soon

  6. I actually think this wouldn’t be too bad of an idea? Most of the stuff on ABC is crap apart from Modern Family, and without Lost and FlashForward they’re in need of a good serialised drama (not interested in V). I enjoyed the first series, the reboot could be fun too.

  7. Funny how this idea of an Alias remake comes after 24 got cancelled, the two shows having been compared to each other during all of Alias’ run and most of 24’s.

  8. Isn’t Undercovers the Alias remake? Different networks, but Undercovers sounds like its going to be very similar to Alias (with a dash of Mr and Mrs Smith throw in perhaps a touch of True Lies).

Anyway, Alias was fun for the first two seasons, then it all went down-hill.
