Shane Jacobson fronts Top Gear Australia

Shane "Kenny" Jacobson has been named as one of three hosts for Nine's production of Top Gear Australia.

Shane “Kenny” Jacobson has been named as one of three hosts for Nine’s production of Top Gear Australia.

He will be joined by Steve Pizzatti, who was with the show on SBS, and Ewen Page, editor of the Top Gear magazine.

Nine has the rights to the local version as part of its title acquisition from the BBC.

“As a boy from the western suburbs of Melbourne, I’ve always had a passion for cars,” Jacobson told news.com.au. “I wasn’t the guy at the set of lights whistling out of the car and doing burnouts, I wasn’t the guy at the illegal street drags, but I am the guy who’s always been keen on cars.”

Jacobson will also host When Kids Grow Up for Nine.

The rumour mill had been speculating that Shane Warne was to win a hosting role, but it hasn’t been realised.

Nine is expected to air specials later this year, to be produced by Freehand.

  1. it doesnt matter who they get for top gear aus it will be nothing but sh-= anyway , parrizzi is un watchable and the other two cant drive……….i won’t be watching…….yet a nother motoring program that is trying to live up to the hipe of a brilliant european version

  2. The core thing missing from Top Gear Australia was a suitable main host.

Shane, well I don’t know his interest in cars. He better have a strong one, and not be cast solely for comedic reasons. Or else there’s danger.

There is no reason an Aussie version can’t be good, in fact I think the previous Aussie ones were decent, however they just lacked in some key areas.

No strong host and lack of writers.

It seemed the over estimated the improve of the stars instead of scripting. Hosts, Warren and Steve were both good. I would say keep them.

Scripting is very important to the UK version and the natural way it’s handled is why it works and people don’t often realise. The Aussie show seemed to lack the natural nature of the scripted moments and rely too much on non scripted stuff which often was bland.

James Morrison was an improvement from Charlie Cox (who was fine), how ever he was not a strong host and was often used as a co-host behind warren and steve. Him in a supporting role would have been great, not as the main host.

As who could be a great main host, I don’t know. Just have more writers and if the show is lacking don’t drag out bits, cut them short and add more segments. I assume with Nine comes more money, so there’s no excuse for the episodes being 30 minutes of good content stretched out to an hour.

  3. Yup, Mark prob has a lot more free time now that he’s not heading the F1 table…

Little-known fact: he and Vettel between them are responsible for the chin coming back into fashion in the UK and western Europe.
