The Chaser ready for election return

Those cheeky Chaser boys are eyeing a return to television for the upcoming Federal election, according to Chas Licciardello.

Somebody better warn the Rudd and Abbott camps. And ABC’s comedy execs.

Those cheeky Chaser boys are eyeing a return to television for the upcoming Federal election.

Chas Licciardello told Nova radio they are ready to roll but don’t yet have a contract to return.

“To be honest, we’re planning to come back for the election,” he said.

“If they call an election tomorrow, we’re back on TV tomorrow, I hope.

“We haven’t signed a contract yet with the ABC, which is an important point.”

If they don’t have a contract signed yet could a commercial TV exec who is now reading this article be reaching for the phone to organise their own talks?

  1. It would be awesome if this and their 2001, 2004, and 2007 election shows ended up on DVD.

Also, I hope (but doubt) we’ve seen the last of every second sketch appearing in the news somewhere alerting people that don’t watch the show, that they would have been inconsolably offended if they had.

  2. Its about bloody time. TV has sucked ass since these guys left. Channel Ten should really think about signing these guys, I’m surprised Channel Seven haven’t tried already.

Just get back on air already, seriously. The miserable old failures who got upset at the sick kids sketch are all too busy streaming narrow minded crap from the Westboro Baptist Church to even notice what’s on air these days.

  3. If the ABC doesn’t want them, I bet Seven will try to get them. They’ve got a thing for poaching. Of course, if the Chaser does end up on Seven they will have lost all cred.

  4. You people saying this would be good on ten need a brain transplant!! Ten could be the bloody publicity department for the ALP. People say the ABC are left wing, ten are falling over they slope so far left!

  5. The ABC should repeat CNNNN, I would really like to see it again in full. The DVD just has a couple of episodes. And the newer fans of the war would probably like to see their earlier work.

  6. @Rhys, I think the expression is more along the lines of Tony Abbott lock up your daughters. Haha.

I for one am glad to hear that The Chaser are coming back for the election, it’s a shame they haven’t been on recently they would have a field day with Kevin Rudd’s so called outburst and Tony Abbott’s gospel truth.

  7. A commercial network might be interested in The Chaser, but with the growth of multichanneling, traditional election coverage may be threatened, this year by digital choice.

Ten, if they have the brains, should develop a alternate election night, use 7pm team, combined with Bongiourno, Rimington, and state political reporters, to deliver a solution that doesn’t make election night boring for younger voters, as opposed to rerunning a movie the umpteenth time, with sporadic election news.

  8. I think these guys have jumped the shark. I just think they’ve gone for the cheap laughs now, rather than the intelligent laughs.

Maybe they’ll go back to the glory days of CNNNN – but I don’t think they will. Pity.

  9. Gotta agree with the above posters if this doesn’t end up on abc then ten should try to get it. I couldn’t see it on any other commercial network. 8.30 monday followed by 90 min gnw

  10. Excellent! I have been wondering if they would return for the election. With all the things going on in politics now a days I have been missing the Chaser’s.

  11. The common expression is ‘mothers lock up your daughters’. Doubtless The Chaser’s return for election time will cause minders to lock up their politicians.

I hope they do re-sign with the ABC. A commercial network could well compromise the lads’ irreverent approach to things.
