35 year old Sydney chef Alvin Quah has been eliminated from MasterChef after being judged as cooking the least impressive “V8” cake.
Adriano Zumbo’s 8 layered cake proved to be the cake from hell for the entire MasterChef team. It’s intricacies demanded in just 4 hours proved too much for the remaining contestants. Zumbo’s cake was one of the show’s toughest-ever challenges.
Courtney, Alvin and Jimmy all had the recipe from the previous night, having won the Sunday challenge, but for some it proved of little benefit.
“It’s been a wonderful ride. I couldn’t have expected anymore. I think I have done enough to solidify myself in the culinary world,” he said.
The popular Quah hopes to open an Asian tapas bar and is launching a food website.
Jimmy won the challenge and an advantage for tomorrow’s Mystery Box test by selecting the ingredients.
Three more contestants will be cut this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday ahead of Sunday night’s final.

@ goggly eyes. You got lucky, the episode was filmed weeks ago.
The only live episode will be this Sunday night when the winner is announced.
the editing lead us to believe jimmy took / stole Adams item…..then an add break….and then after the add break, within seconds Jimmy goes something like “sorry mate, i think i took yours” and he gives it back. no harm, no foul – yet the editing made it look like massive drama. I think Jimmy / Callum will be next to leave.
I agree with Dakota re:Callum. Also Rob in regards to the”one-trick pony”. I am glad I am not the only one who thinks along these lines. I hope it is a great night tonight and I am also hoping Jimmy will be surprised by the other contestants. Go Clare
I saw them at the airport yesterday morning at 5.50a.m. and when I didn’t see Alvin with them, I knew he was a goner last night. He made it far though so good luck to him.
anyone else miss the end on the foxtel IQ? my recording of it stopped as they went to the last ad break…..i’m glad the official site has full eps online though after 10:30pm est so avoided any spoilers…..
Mel, i wouldnt call Jimmy a cheater cos he eventually returned it, however i would call Callum a cheater cos when they cooked for Iron Chef Sakai, the Blue team stole the red teams lobster and did not returned it and also cutted it and placed it in the boil causing the Red team to lose 10mins of cooking time.
jimmy doing another curry oh good. he will stuff it up again i suppose
Did Jimmy actually steal Adam’s component to the cake last night? Masterchef implied it but didn’t actually make anything of it. When Jimmy won I was compelled to yell “Cheater!” at the tv.. but I’m not sure if that’s a fair comment. Thoughts?
Why shouldn’t Jimmy do a curry, he won the challenge !
By the looks of the promo there seems to be a curry cooked in the mystery box challenge, I hope its not another one from Jimmy, sigh. It would be a shame if he won Masterchef, he is a one trick pony unworthy of being in the finals, who he admits is less skillful then the others.
2:1 odds on a curry from Jimmy tomorrow. I don’t think he should be there.
That was a cake for sore eyes! I’m still in awe and just started a patisserie Cert III. [pastry] course. I won’t be attempting or learning that. I’ll learn the layers bit by bit! That was just a killer. I never knew how white chocolate or cream could get. It was like a hot rods wedding cake. Alvin did good! But slop on a plate is like Aaron trying to bake altogether. Maybe Aaron said something to him on the way out last Thursday. I can’t think of a cake anymore difficult. Unless you float this cake with atop a crocembuche tower with macaroons on top followed by a mud cake in the centre of the crocembuche tower!
@Dakota – I think Gary is trying to give Callum a wake up call verbally rather than smacking him. The kid has great potential but constantly under performs. Tough love might help.
Shame to see Alvin go but that’s the way the cake crumbles someone had to go. Ironic that two of the bottom three were the ones with the massive advantage.
I know this may cause me to get a bit of crap, but does anyone else think that Gary speaks to Callum incredibly rudely? I understand he’s young, but he’s nowhere near as bad as Gary leads us all to believe… the last few weeks he has been rude even just in little comments, making sarcastic asides… Anyway I just wanted to add that… otherwise its def sad Alvin’s going – he was a great personality!
Where was George? looks like he is gone tomorrow also. You wonder why he is away in the last week..
OMG..My friend lied to me…she said Alvin won!
I wonder if next year will be called MassamanChef ! Shine Australia, you heard it here first.
Oh, I mean this night.
Why did this show take forever to end last night? Surely they could shorten ad breaks since the whole show is an ad anyway.
What are the odds on Jimmy making a curry tomorrow?
Anyone else notice that he left the kitchen in the limo and arrived at his sydney home in a silver service cab ?
thankgod
Wow, good episode, sad to see Alvin go, Callum dodged another bullet, Courtney was lucky but life goes on and I will be watching again tomorrow.
Jimmy the sleeper !
They all seem to crumble the moment there is a cake in the mix!! Still laughing over the CWA challenge!
