Original Chaser member Charles Firth will bring his satirical brand of comedy to GO! in a new project called WTF!

Firth, who last appeared on SBS with his documentary Mr. Firth Goes to Washington, was part of The Chaser back in the CNNNN days and occasional participant on The Chaser’s War on Everything.

For GO! he will produce two minute interstitials that look at celebrity News in a satirical form. With a team of new comedians it promises “celebrity scoops before anyone else even realises it’s news.”

Les Sampson, Director of Acquisitions and HD Channel, said: “GO! is excited to welcome Charles and his team to the network. Their Chaser style of humour and unique take on world events will be right at home on our highly successful GO! channel.”

The show will be anchored by writing partner Nich Richardson (Mr. Firth Goes to Washington,

Do you only have two minutes a day to catch up on the who, why, when, where and what the F of the world’s news? Who would you turn to?

Well if you like your news to taste like bubble gum then GO!’s new and outlandish news service WTF! from the original Chaser’s Charles Firth is the one for you.

Writer/performer Nich Richardson anchors a satirical, pop-culture news show unlike anything seen on Australian television. Joined by a team of good-looking, trusted reporters, Richardson and these fresh-faced comedians will bring you celebrity scoops before anyone else even realises it’s news.

Each fast-paced daily WTF! bulletin will feature sight gags such as “live crosses” and pre-recorded reports about the world of modern celebrity while sending up the serious entertainment shows that feed on it.

“Digital television has opened up so many new production options and we felt GO! was the perfect home for our offbeat kind of television,” Charles Firth, WTF! creator and executive producer, said.

“We created WTF! as an opportunity to bring new, young performers to television in our peculiar version of celebrity news.”

WTF! is currently in production and will screen on GO! later this year.

  1. This is great that Go! is producing original programming but really 2 minutes – WTF?
Bite the bullet and make a half hour show. You can run it 4 or 5 times during the week. Bt who is going to tune in for a 2 minute interstitial?
At least a half hour show can generate buzz, DVD sales, itunes download, revenue streams, boost ratings, get people who dont watch Go! to actually Tine it and gorow the aud.
2 minutes – will do none of those things.

  2. just 2 minutes, that’s wee short isn’t it? so you blink and you’ll miss it… can they not make it longer?

I’m quite certain I will like this, the same thing I liked what he did to those gullible yankees on Chasers!.

  3. This sounds good, and will fit nicely with the GO! Newsbursts. Speaking of which, doesn’t the Newsbursts feel a lot like BTN which is now News on 3? The presenters on the Newsbursts are fantastic (and hot!). 🙂

  4. In terms of original content, it’s a start. OneHD is stilling winning that war (but then again, it’s a lot cheaper to produce sports based shows than shows catering for general entertainment channels).

Firth’s last project “Mr Firth Goes to washington” I thought was pretty horrible, and of low quality- a stark contrast to his days as a chaser member.
