ONE’s motor racing commentator Daryl Beattie has been fined $500 and disqualified from driving for a year for failing to give a breath test.

Beattie was stopped for a random breath test while driving in Neutral Bay, Sydney, on July 30th.

Following a positive result, he was taken to North Sydney police station where he refused a direction for a second test to confirm his blood-alcohol level.

He was not present today at North Sydney Local Court.

Beattie’s solicitor told the court his client had a number of sponsorship agreements with motor companies and charity events that require him to drive.

The maximum licence disqualification is three years.

Beattie has been with Network TEN since 1999, commentating for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, MotoGP World Motorcycle Championship and the Red Bull Air Race series.
