US Open Finals in 3D

FOX Sports will broadcast 14 days of the US Open with the Women’s and Men’s Singles Finals in 3D for the first time.

FOX Sports will broadcast 14 days of competition of the US Open culminating in the Women’s and Men’s Singles Finals in 3D for the first time.

FOX Sports will serve up over 170 hours of Live coverage throughout the US Open, with Adam Peacock hosting the telecast from New York’s Flushing Meadows where he will be joined in expert commentary by Wally Masur, Nicole Pratt, Roger Rasheed, Wayne Arthurs and Josh Eagle.

FOX Sports will again be at the forefront of Australian television innovation by making the Women’s and Men’s US Open Singles Finals available in 3D to FOXTEL iQ2 and AUSTAR MyStar HD subscribers with a 3D ready television via FOX Sports 3D (Channel 206).

In addition to FOX Sports Live coverage of each day’s play, highlights will screen throughout the tournament, while FOX Sports News and foxsports.com.au will keep viewers up-to-date with all the latest news, scores and pictures.

All eyes will be on world number one, Rafael Nadal, who is going after the one Grand Slam trophy missing from his cabinet. Nadal’s main challenger will be number two seed Roger Federer – a five-time US Open Champion – who will be seeking a record-extending 17th Grand Slam singles title in New York. Lleyton Hewitt will lead the Aussie charge, entering the tournament as the 32nd seed.

In the women’s draw, defending champion Kim Clijsters will be hoping to claim a third US Open singles title, with her biggest competitors likely to include the tournament’s top seed and last year’s runner up, Caroline Wozniacki, two-time winner Venus Williams and Australia’s Samantha Stosur, who will enter the tournament seeded fifth.

Day 1 begins Live at 1:00am on Tuesday, August 31.

The Women’s Singles Final will air live in 3D from 10am Sunday, September 12 and Men’s Singles Final from 6am Monday, September 13 on FOX Sports 2, FOX Sports 2HD and FOX Sports 3D (Channel 206).

  1. Day 1 “Cancelled: [6]” recording restarted @ 2:40am wst.

Channel 206 now unavailable. That means at least 1 more round of cancelled recordings for everyone before the finals in 3D.

  2. @newtaste. It’s impossible for Nine to have the grand final in 3D because the temporary broadcast license that was used for 3D has expired so there is no longer a spare channel to use for FTA 3D unless another trial is announced well in advance.

  3. Just checked the advanced schedule, apparently Nine won’t be showing US Open this year, not even the final. It’s a great loss for all the tennis fans in Australia, as we won’t be getting anything other than the Australian Open which is heavily abused by Channel 7 every year.

  4. Good news for tennis fans who have Foxtel at home. Just hope that more Australians would actually have access to the US Open because it’s a truly great tournament.

  5. David, channel 206 is currently listed as ESPN 3D on my iQ2, would you be able to seek comment from Foxtel as to when they plan on remote resetting our boxes to update the listing to FOX Sports 3D?

It will be extremely infuriating for all subscribers to have recordings annihilated (ie Cancelled: [6]) to provide a 3D broadcast for what is probably very few viewers.

  6. I reckon multi-match options like the BBC offer for Wimbledon would be a far sight more attractive to the viewers than 3D, but hey, when have the viewers ever been considered in this country? Or am I just grumpy cos I don’t have 3D?
