The trade fair will feature a special “Spotlight on Australia,” showcasing Australian television product to the world.

Australia will be celebrating the 20th birthday of The Wiggles and the 21st year of Melbourne’s Visual Entertainment Group at MIPCOM.

Film director and screenwriter Gregor Jordan will kickoff the spotlight with a keynote address focusing on the international launch of new interactive website “Smashcut,” a trans-media project co-produced by Gregor and The Project Factory.

“It’s like YouTube but with an interactive element that takes it to a whole new level,” Jordan said of the unprecedented marketing and distribution platform. Firelight Productions’  Marcus Gillezeau will chair case studies on cross-platform content and alternative revenue streams.

Ian Hogg, CEO of FremantleMedia  will talk about the success of global formats that work like The X Factor and IPTV innovators including Telstra and FetchTV will look at how traditional media and new players are adapting to content shifts.

Tourism Australia and Screen Australia will also attend.

The 2010 MIPCOM market runs Oct. 4 – 8 in Cannes.

  1. Tom, i agree on Ian Hogg. Fremantle hasn’t produced much original Australian tv.

I would have liked to see Bevan Lee and perhaps John Edwards or someone from Southern Star considering on an international level Australia has had a strong drama slate in recent times. One in house, one independent?

  2. I’ve very skeptical of anyone who describes there new online property as “It’s like YouTube but…”

It’s like pitching a show as “It’s like American Idol but…”
