Singer Katy Perry has responded to a move by Sesame Street producers this week to withhold her appearannce on the show after parents complained her low-cut outfit was inappropriate.

“Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!” she wrote on Twitter.

The video had been promoted online ahead of its TV appearance.

But it was left to fiance Russell Brand to speak out.

“Today’s Sesame Street will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D… Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sex-with-me Street?

Then again, maybe it was cut for being another bloody MasterChef plug?

  1. I’m just wondering, did anyone complain back in the sixties about Jeannie’s outfit? I do watch I Dream Of Jeannie and you can just see her breasts in some scenes. How was this clip with Katy Perry any worse?

  2. To those who say ‘oh Elmo is naked’ – you do realise that he has no sexual parts do you not?

    No breasts or penis so it doesn’t matter if he is naked or not as there is nothing ‘on display.’

  4. that’s such crap! kids who watch Sesame Street don’t see Katy as a sex object or someone to look up to, they see a stupid girl with lots of colours with a food factory on her chest. just like mommy.

    How old do they think the kids are that watch this for it to be an issue?

  5. Hmm, the headline to the article makes it sound like she’s actually commented on it, rather just saying, yep it happened.

    I guess it is more about setting a bad example for young girls, encouraging them to be more sexualised.

    There is nothing wrong with the above, have seen more cleavage on that Pig Muppet than on Katy there (including a Janet Jackson type one).

  15. I’m sure the Toddlers didn’t complain! Let’s face it, half the Sesame Street audience is still breastfeeding or just been weaned, Katy’s outfit would just have made them think “lunch”.

  18. I’ll admit there’s a bit of cleavage in the video clip, but on the other hand at least it was covered by fabric instead of hanging out for the whole world to see. At least she’s not wearing a Cone-shaped bra like Madonna did once. I found the video to be very sweet and Elmo was really cute =] The “conservative” rant that people go on about cause me to question what year this is… Next thing you know, people will go back to expecting women to be dependant on men again and that women should go back to taking care of children instead of having a life of their own.

  19. I don’t see the problem, there is much worse on morning music shows which these same kids probably see as their older siblings watch!

    Why didn’t they just do it again with Kate in a different dress?
