Bumped: The Event

Seven is moving The Event to a later start at 9:30pm start beginning on Monday week.

And so it begins….

Seven is moving The Event from its 8:30pm timeslot to a later start at 9:30pm beginning on Monday week.

It remains at 8:30pm next week.

To make room for the switch Covert Affairs will wrap up next Monday with a double episode.

Sexiest Cover Girls will air at 11:30pm. As a result 10 Years Younger In 10 Days and Momma’s Boys are out and resume on October 25.

The Event is now following the same trajectory as FlashForward which began with a bang but diminished with each passing week, moving timeslots later and later.

Seven is yet to indicate what will replace the show on October 25.

  1. I liked the Event ever since episode 2 where they seemed to reveal we are dealing with aliens (sortof), which makes it right up my alley, and I have no trouble following the story movement at all.

  2. The Event is winning it’s time period in 25-54, 18-49, 16-39 and total people.

Why on earth is Seven moving it?

What show do they plan to pt in it’s place that will do better? And at what cost? Move and damage a show that is winning it’s slot in every single demo to on the chance that what, you get a 2% bump?

Seven do this to every show – they kill it.

  3. @ secret squirrel – it is strange bumping a show that’s rating 1m and winning it’s slot. i could understand if it were being thrashed by something else but that’s not the case which makes it a very odd decision by Seven.

  4. The Event hasn’t exactly had many promos, and it’s not like they’ve changed the promos either, it’s the same ad, over and over, no surprises as to why viewership is declining.

  5. Well, I’m not surprised but I think it’s a premature move by Seven. The first two Eps rated just over a mill and this week it was down only about 5%, but it’s been winning its timeslot and helping Seven take out the night. Bumping it to 9:30 will just start the inevitable slide in ratings which will then make Seven bump it again. Why not leave it at 8:30 but move it to 72/mate (if it has to move at all)?

As for the show itself, I’m with Brisvegas in not really caring about what the event might be. A few serious plot holes haven’t helped either (cars not being driven away from incoming plane as soon as the President enters, being able to sneak onto a plane with a gun just by wearing a maintenance uniform, Maya not being searched before being allowed to meet with William, etc, etc).

The show still has potential but it’ll need to pick up soon.

  6. Would almost place money on new Criminal Minds going against new Mentalist at 8.30pm Monday Oct 25.

Niether of which I would consider fast tracked now, as that date places them both more than one month after their US air dates.

  7. This sort of stuff just does not work anymore because the only people who actually end up understanding it are the creators, the rest of the world remains confused.
And we have been ripped off before with the “they are all dead” kind of conclusions that we just don’t seem to care anymore…

  8. Maybe I’m alone, but, I am enjoying The Event and am keen to find out what happens next. I had low expectations going in to the 1st ep and have been pleasantly suprised. 3 stars from me 🙂

  9. I don’t care what Seven do but this is not a big surprise. I like The Event and will keep watching, I also stuck with FlashForward until the end. The only annoying thing there was the ending set up for S2.

BTW ep 4 is much better than ep3.

  10. The Event was like Flashforward. It started with lots of teaser ads before the series starts, debuts with high ratings, and now the timeslot is getting later and later. Maybe we’ll see at the start of the 2011 ratings year with a 10:30 or even an 11:30 start.

  11. yeah this show is on the slide – poor reviews stateside I think I’m about 2 episodes away from losing interest. To be honest, I don’t really care what the event actually is/was. And I don’t think i care for any of the characters.

  12. How about new episodes of Criminal Minds. Hasn’t that started in the US.
I watched Flashforward from start to finish and thought it was quite good. The Event was just terrible though.

  13. this is probably a reaction to the US ratings that came in this morning, the show doesn’t have a secure future. The mistake 7 made with Flashforward was returning it earlier this year to 7 instead of 7two and it ended upbeing wasted at 11:30, had it gone to 7two it could have been put to better use. if the event lasts that long hopefully 7 put it on 7two next year where it can keep an 8:30/9:30 slot till the end.

fasttracked Criminal Minds returning to Monday 8:30?

  14. I’d like to see Seven rest the Event next week and air a double Covert Affairs from 8.30 next week to see how it goes; its been a good 9.30 performer for them. Then move Criminal Minds to 8.30 the following week followed by The Event.
