Seven / Nine News: Spot the difference

Check out these screenshots from copycat promos, courtesy of News bulletins in Brisbane.

Hmmm what’s going on in Brissy?

On Thursday Seven News ran a promo with footage that then looked suspiciously similar to something  Nine ran later.

Just without the Seven branding….note the telltale top right hand corner of the second photo.

Brisbane is also where that Seven News photo of its site at Brisbane’s Ekka (otherwise known as the Brisbane Exhibition) had a little photoshopping by Nine last July.

  1. David, could it he true that both Nine and 7 were supplied the same video/coverage?!

I’m certain this happens all the time when something happens and there is only one source! We cannot be this dumb!!!

  2. @ Lucy (the channel 9 employee) fair go mate. David brings us a fair and balanced for of all networks. It is another interesting observation that he has on his blog about T.V. If you notice something like that and take the energy to go do what David does its worth reading. I would suggest you get back to the office and get some of your own shots in the future LOL.

    Good work David.

  3. I watched ABC News tonight (as usual). They used footage from a News Ltd paper, and some footage from Channel Nine. Both carried attribution (in the ABC graphic), and the original video watermarks. Much better than what Nine have done with Seven’s pictures.

  4. Whilst very similar there are some tiny differences. Still, the constant copying from one network to another is just ridiculous. Does it mean that I can copy someone else’s work and hand it in as my own for uni?

  5. @FJ – the frames are not from exactly the same time. You can see the bottom of the “7 NEWS” logo at the top-right of the Nine clip. It’s the same footage just digitally zoomed.

  6. Seven are just as guilty of doing this as Nine, the only difference is Seven have a more active team sending out these stories to journalists. The screenshots are from Seven’s quantel system. Each night they record their own news and Nine’s. Hopefully Nine will send out examples when Seven do this and the real story can be told.

I Notice no-one has mentioned Seven News in Sydney ran an “Exclusive” story on on Monday night of a family living next to a giant pit that Nine had run 3 months earlier!

  7. Sorry for the double post David feel free to add the following comments to my last post …. I also appreciate all the hard work David does with his blog as many others in the industry do.
The hours of dedication David puts in is a credit to him.
Some may think he has a team of helpers like some forums do but his team consist of only one! ….

  8. I have never said Nine were innocent of this I just think singling out one station when others are guilty of it aswell as @ knowfirst has said seems very one sided and is givening the true story.
@ Butters if you have an issue with my link thats your problem!

  9. trust me, it’s been happening for a while, and it still happens more often than we all would like.

But from a newsbreak! usually it’s lifted from the story, a bit cleaner, but they must’ve been struggling.

  10. Well, Seven’s caption was correct – the story was on tonight at 6.00 – just on a different channel!

@ Lucy – save it. If the positions were reversed we’d have your equivalent fanbois from seven having a go at David. Not so sure the hyperlink you provided is particularly appropriate for this site either.

  11. Why do people say “slow news day” when they see an article they don’t like? This isn’t just a TV news website. It has special features, humurous articles and David’s thoughts.

Thank you David for bringing us this. I certainly appreciated it

  12. Not just Brissy…..same here in Sydney….the nightly….so called ….current affair programs…..are just duplicate copies of each other……..thought it was me just getting old and senile…..*G*

  13. In a rare move of network bipartisan cost-cutting, BTQ7 & QTQ9 have announced they’ll be sharing the same computer-generated news studio set and will be superimposing faces and wardrobe of their own presenters on an actor wearing digital green spandex suit.

  14. No different to what Seven in Melbourne did on the weekend when they used Nines footage of the doctor who is alleged to have infected women. They enlarged the picture to cut out the Nine ‘First on Nine’ logo.

Why should the news be any different to TT v ACA ?
Both of them are clones and the news is heading down the same road.

  15. Tit for tat, while 5:30 goes to the rats.

No wonder people will switch to the TVQ service next year: I’d say people in Brisbane are fed up with this fighting between 7 and 9.

I wonder what 9 will counter with?
