Shameless (US): trailer

I guess we should be grateful that America seems to be hitting the tone better in its remakes of UK shows.
This trailer for Shameless isn’t too bad, although in some ways it reminds me of a number of other US shows about dysfunctional TV families.
Normally I would be saying “They’re not really hoping to improve on David Threlfall are they?”
But they do have William H. Macy. And it is Showtime after all….
Wonder if anyone will be picking this up for Australia?

Well I have never seen Shameless UK but this seems like it could be a pretty decent drama, Skins I’ve seen and to be honest the US version that looks ok too, don’t know where all the hate is coming from seeing as though nobody has even seen more than ten minutes.
Another pointless remake then of a UK show the American’s obviously just don’t get. It’s far too “Hollywood” to ever be a patch on the original – especially as it’s just a straight rip-off – though why they’ve made Carl and Liam a few years younger is pretty questionable.
Is it just me, or does their frank not look homeless and filthy enough? He needs to be more scatterbrain. He just looks like a down on his luck banker or something. They should have made them more typically irish-american, with the boston-esque accents. I think that’d have made it slightly better.
Emmy rossum is fine casting I think. The kids don’t look as trashy though. The whole point of the boy was that he looked like a skinhead but was gay which made for an interesting dynamic, whilst here he looks exactly how the shows usually portray homosexuals. And are they missing a kid or something? I’m sure I remember seeing an older boy in the original.
I can’t see it lasting.
I think William H Macy is a tad to old for the part, old enough to be most of the kids grand dad. If this does work, it’d be interseting to see if they keep the original cast and not lose the actors the way UK Shameless has been prone to do….What ever happened to the US version of Outrageous Fortune?
Great cast, wish they’d kept the concept and changed the names of the characters though!
Love Shameless on SBS – watch it even though there are ads.
Well, record it and FF the ads.
Best thing is Emmy Rossum is topless in the pilot. Very nice indeedy.
Looks ok, but not great. And lets be honest, as long as its not a total f*** up, then it exceeds expectations.
But you just can’t beat the original.
I have never ever seen anything the yanks have done that’s was anywhere near as good as the original…
Not sure about this – although William H Macy is a great actor.
Americans aren’t really known for doing comedies about social classes – the English seem to do that sort of thing much better.
I was amused to see the US version advertised as being an ‘original’ series – original like the US version of Skins no doubt……..
Shameless lite?
Big call to go up against the British version of this show. William H Macy is the best chance they’ve got though.
I’ve seen Shameless on SBS, gosh it should be subtitled, I can’t bloody understand what they’re saying…
Oh dear…
Oh gosh, I hope this is good. I absolutely love Shameless in the U.S., right from Season 1!
Nope.
