Top Model producer didn’t push button

Presuming you're not truly over it.... finally an explanation on how the Top Model finale went so wrong.

Another story today on Modelgate / Next Top Muddle finally sheds some light on what went down on Tuesday night. Getting an explanation is a bit like pulling teeth….

Foxtel executive director of television Brian Walsh said that an internal investigation was complete and the culprit was a producer neglecting to press a button.

“The error was caused by a producer who admitted they failed to press the audio coms (communications) button to Sarah’s earpiece in the control room, meaning the floor crew and technical crew had heard the correct result, but not the host,” he said.

As everyone saw Murdoch patiently waiting for the name of the winner to be whispered in her earpiece, someone was feeding the all-important name to everyone but her.

When Murdoch finally took an educated guess on Kelsey – using the most recent voting information fed to her five minutes earlier – pandemonium ensued.

“The mood was shock,” one of the van dwellers said. “People were trying to work out how to communicate with her as quickly as possible.

“When she announced (Kelsey), that was not what we were told in the truck. It was just everyone saying ‘It’s Amanda, it’s Amanda’. The fireworks had gone off.”

It’s unclear why this explanation wasn’t included in yesterday’s Press Release. And although there are still some question marks about audience votes we’re all more than a little over this one…

  1. If this is a true story, the blame ultimely is with Sarah as the words came out of her mouth. She should have said something like “It is so close, I have not got the name yet” and then waited. Some one would have eventually pressed the button! It’s like the old story…the voices, or should I say, the silence of the voices, made me do it! Very unprofessional what ever the reason or stunt.

  2. I think the publicity cow hasn’t got anymore milk to give on this one. I think it’s time they came out and said it was a publicity stunt instead of taking 2-3 days to come up with a plausible excuse.

  3. As I have said before, next year’s series finale should be pre-recorded at least a few hours or a day in advance, at least that way they have time to fix mistakes like what happened on Tuesday night.

  4. “..next top muddle” Guffaw! That’s hilarious David! However, as for this most historical moment – what’s the deal with Foxtel / Grenada coming up with all these quasi explanations? Everyday a new theory, a new story. Now someone didn’t push a button. A button…wow…and they only push it once…their is no control, no confirmation? It’s all starting to sound a little like the dog ate my homework. It’s starting to stink of stunt! Oh and what a stunt.
