David Cassidy arrested for drink driving

Former Partridge Family star David Cassidy has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving but plans to fight the charge.

Former Partridge Family star David Cassidy has been arrested in Florida on suspicion of drink driving, landing nine hours in a county jail before posting $350 bail.

But the 1970s hearthrob, 60, plans to fight the charge. He claims the results of two breath tests, both around 0.14, are inaccurate.

Florida Highway Patrol said the actor and singer failed a field sobriety test and two breath tests after being pulled over around 6 p.m. for driving erratically in Fort Lauderdale. Officers said they found a half-empty bottle of bourbon in the backseat of his white Mercedes.

According to an arrest report Cassidy allegedly crossed the centre divider line, then cut off another driver while attempting to merge onto an exit ramp. He was charged with DUI, failure to maintain a single lane and having an open container.

Cassidy, 60, told police he had had a glass of wine at lunch and took a hydrocodone pill in the afternoon for back pain.

Cassidy’s long hair and pretty-boy looks made him a worldwide teen heartthrob in the 1970s, with hits like “Cherish” and “I Think I Love You”. He toured Australia to frenzied audiences including a live show at the MCG.
