George Michael to judge US X Factor?

Make what you will of UK newspaper reports that George Michael is set to become a judge on The X Factor USA.

There is speculation that George Michael could sign on as a judge on the new American version of The X Factor.

The former Wham! star is said to have been offered a deal worth more than £1million after Simon Cowell was seen visiting his home in north London last month.

While the story does emerge from the London papers, it seems like the kind of move that Michael wouldn’t take. But since his jail term earlier this year for drug-driving, it could be a chance to rebuild his reputation.

A source told The Sun: ‘George is going to take the job. It’s an amazing opportunity to get back in the limelight and reverse his recent bad spell. Simon knows that Americans love him. He is as big in the U.S. as he is over here.

‘He is a true star and has the wit and experience for the job. It’s the perfect platform to resurrect his career.’

But a spokesperson for George told MailOnline today however: “It’s news to us. We think it’s just a response to rumours circling on the internet.”

George’s recent conviction for driving under the influence and drug possession may affect his ability to be awarded a US work permit.

Stranger things have happened. Cowell did approve the hiring of Matt Newton for The X Factor Australia, after his time in rehab, but it was a decision that backfired.

  1. “He is as big in the U.S. as he is over here.”
Err… is that quote from 1987? It has been a long time since George sold records in the US (although he certainly still has name recognition).

  2. They are only rumours. It won’t be him. If it is then i am disappointed because being America they should strive for the very best. Cowell isn’t that stupid is he?

  3. A deal worth over $1mil? That seems a bit low. The idol judges get way more and x factor is a much bigger workload.

Anyway most media seem to have already ended speculation with will smith, Cheryl Cole and Nicole scherzinger, these reports are a bit late.
