I recently caught one of TEN’s new promos for its new-look TEN News line-up, but now that I have seen all their state based promos back to back, it’s just a little distracting…

“We’ll take the time to tell you not just what’s happening, but why,” George Negus promises.

Fair enough.

So can you tell us why you changed locations mid-sentence, George?

  1. 6PM will be coming out of Sydney each night,
    7PM wil be coming out of Melbourne each night…

    For other states such as Tasmania and NT, TEN don’t own or operate the local stations in those markets.

  3. James Styles, have you even watched TDT’s 5pm news? If you have, you would’ve noticed that it’s just the straight Melbourne bulletin.

    Same goes for DDT viewers.

  9. Probably 6PM will be coming from Melbourne instead of Sydney, that’s why George always goes back to Melbourne mid-sentence.

    As for the VIC promo shown on SC10 NT/Tas, well I guess Ten could’ve at least introduced something like “SC Ten’s Evening News’ in place of the VIC 6.30 for NT/Tas.

    I like the idea, the ad’s odd but the idea is interesting. I’ll still watch the Drum at 6:05 but I like the idea.

  12. First the grand prix and now Melbourne steal George Donikian from our 5pm news. I’m thinking i might just watch Ten news right through. I usually watch Ten at 5pm, then Seven news at 6pm, and then the dreaded 6.30 comes along where it’s either crappy Neighbours, or crappy journalism current affairs so i switch off. Might as well watch Ten from 5pm until 7.30 now. Just hope we’re not gonna be seeing the same news stories several times during each bulletin.

  15. Here’s something interesting. At the end of the video, there is a small caption in the background behind the 6:30 presenter saying ‘Ten Evening News’ and behind George Negus saying ‘The 6pm…’ (the rest of it is obscured).

  19. Melbourne at least the camera is likely to just have moved east to west. More to the point he’s wearing the same clothes on a journey around the country!

  20. There’s not going to be much for the 7pm Project to cover after all of that.

    I presume from the promo that Negus has some sort of Quantum Leap tele-transporter to zap him round the country to the biggest stories – good to see they put Packers new money to good use.

  21. It just seems odd that ten didn’t update the skyline for each promo…

    Seems like someone is lacking originality in the naming department too… haha

  23. Is Negus based in Melbourne or Sydney? I know he does 7PM in Melbourne but they also sometimes cross to him live in Sydney. Where will his show be coming from?
    Does Melbourne’s 5pm news (and soon 6:30pm news) come from the Chapel St studio, as well as 7PM?
