68th Golden Globes: winners

Glee dominates the TV wins while Boardwalk Empire, Katey Sagal, Laura Linney and Jim Parsons also score -but the Aussies miss out.

Ricky Gervais has wasted no time in dropping the cheeky remarks at the 68th Golden Globe Awards.

With beer intact his first target was Charlie Sheen.

“It’s a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast.”

He then launched into a routine on Sheen’s “porn star” bender.

He also dropped a gag about the HFPA accepting bribes. Ouch.

Next up gags about the age of the Sex and the City cast (“I saw one of you in Bonanza“) and famous scientologists who might be gay. No names.

Then there was the ageing Hugh Hefner. “Just don’t look at it when you touch it.”

Then there was the Lost finale. “I’m pretty sure the fat one ate them all.”

The first award of the night went to Christian Bale as Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter -sorry Geoffrey Rush.

Here are the TV wins as they are announced (winners in bold).

As De Niro hits the stage I think we have our first standing ovation for the night. He is in top form (who wrote these gags!) including digs at HFPA journos and waiters who have been deported, Homeland Security and noting that his career package must have been “nothing but hits.”

  1. Being an Aussie in new York I love to hear the Cries from down under…. 23 comments on a show that rated 30 million in the us ….
    Please get a life…!!!!!!

  2. I really disliked Ricky Gervais’ host performance – awful! The prizes themselves went down pretty much as predicted. I am very proud of my own tip on another thread here that Sagal, Buschemi and Linney were all winners (only Jim Parsons did i not get right). GG’S are usually fun – it just seemed that Gervais’ tasteless and rudely unfunny intros created an unsettled and tentaticve vibe for the room – certainly for this viewer – i have been watching the show for 25 years!

  3. Ricky was at his acerbic best. In the run-up to the “Ashton Kutcher’s dad” punchline he only listed Willis’ dud movies. He also asked if Robert Downey’s movies were all porn films after reading out a list with possible double-entendres.

  4. i love that we got the ad for NBC’s ‘biggerized’ Thursday Night comedy line up!
Ricky was great- that opening monologue had me in stitches and the Tim allen jibe was so awkward. there were some odd wins but they were coming from an odd list of nominations…

  5. @ Richard W: Have you ever seen an episode of Glee? Regardless of whether or not you like the show, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch are very talented actors, and breath life into 2 of the most enjoyable characters that there are to watch on TV.

  6. Glad to hear that Diane Warren won for “You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me”. I only wish Cher was there to perform it.

And yes, Diane wrote “Listen With Your Heart” for Casey Donovan. She also wrote some songs for Cosima de Vito from Australian Idol S1 too!

  7. Best Television Series – Comedy Or Musical??? umm this should be 2 awards… BBT should win in its own right! 🙁

at least jim picked up the gong… 🙂

  8. I don’t like Facebook either but I’m willing to ignore that just to watch a movie penned by Aaron Sorkin, it’s definately worth the money paid.

I’m so glad Jim Parsons won for Big Bang, despite the amount of times its repeated by Nine its still an outstanding show.

Lastly I hope the award wins will encourage SBS to air Broadwalk Empire, everything I’ve heard make it sound worth watching.

    Question: What’s the HFPA?

  9. Why did Jim Parsons win instead of Matthew Morrison?. Jim’s role in TBBT is so nauseating aweful & nowhere any way of being hilarious!.

Both 2&HM & TBBT shouldn’t have only lasted 2 seasons each as the humour on both shows are absoultely atrocious!.

  10. i read that justin bieber hired security guards because he was terrified of Ricky Gervais. not sure what they will do if he makes a gag about justin. hope he does make a gag about him though.

  11. I’ve become quite a fan of the new series of Hawaii Five-O – so would have liked Scott Caan to get the nod over Chris Coffer from Glee – but that one looks like a pretty hard category, with many potential winners.
