Yes CK, I agree.
She was definitely on the nose up in QLD but I reckon the past few weeks with the flood crisis she has really shone as a leader. Compassionate, effecitve and honest with the people. And very active in the efforts to cooridnate the response.
These are times when Australia can really get it right. We are a first world country so we absolutely have to respond in that way.
sorry – one more comment – great that 7 are showing the tennis on 7two and 9 showing the cricket on gem – great use of the multichannels!!
@armchair analyst – no one could have seen this coming – just like the vic bushfires.
Im a victorian but am so impressed by the way Anna Bligh is presenting herself and appealing to the people – so natural, heartfelt and un-scripted. I think qld are lucky to have a leader like this.
Just announced on Fiveaa radio game will be live into Adelaide at 7.00pm not sure if it will be on gem or normal channel 9 though
This is the biggest TV coverage I’ve ever seen since 9/11, when all TV channels abandoned regular programming for one day to relay the coverage, from memory! Seven must be copying the format from Nine’s coverage last night for tonight in order to gain higher ratings!
@Armchair Analyst: you might like to Google for the SEQ Water website and have a look at the dam levels for Somerset and Wivenhoe (basically, the whole Brisbane River catchment water storage) – after being below 20% full a few years ago, and only at 60% 2 years ago, they didn’t fill up ’til Jan 2010. Currently, Wivenhoe (downstream from Somerset, and closest to Brisbane) is at ~190% full.
How much reserve capacity would you like? Or are you one of those idiots who last year were shouting loudly that Wivenhoe should be kept at 140% full so we wouldn’t suffer water shortages again?
@ armchair – you must have missed the part when they said that with this amount of water coming in no dam etc would have made a difference.
I do not want to say anything negative about this terrible disaster but part of the blame lies with the Queensland state government. They could have invested a decent amount of money into water catchments and other water storage schemes/ facilities, but they didn’t so in that way it is their fault. This will be a final nail in Anna Bligh’s political coffin. You didn’t have to be a genius to work out that the drought was going to break and break in a big way. Just look at how long the drought hung around for. The longer the drought stayed around the sooner it was going to break nothing lasts forever no even a crippling drought. The only benefit of this flood is going to be is that for the most part our water worries a over ( as far as not having enough of it). Someone will pay for this and i dont mean monetory wise. Just like victoria’s former police chief Cristine Nixon after the Victorian bush fires somone will have to accept responsibilities because this sadness and shock will turn into anger and it will be pointed at the Qld Govt.
Armchair Analyst: time and place, mate.
im looking for hi ground at chambers flat qld to put sume horses as my morthers house is about to be washed out as the logan is ring faster then we cam move
so call me on 0400640071
Just to clarify a couple of things that I heard during the Cricket
The KFC 20/20 between Australia and England will air at 7:30pm AEDST Live into Sydney and Melbourne (check local guides).
In Brisbane, it will also air Live but, on GEM at 6:30pm Queensland Time with a replay on Nine at 10:30pm!
Why don’t the banks suspend mortgage and credit card payments for those affected by the floods to avoid anymore hardship for these people until they can return to normal if thats possible?
Massive effort by Sunrise this morning going for 7 hours straight. Also I believe the Koch is back tomorrow to anchor with Mel.
@foxtel customer
Gem is available to Foxtel HD customers.
Mens cricket match now to air delayed at 9.30pm on 9 in Qld and live on GEM at 7.30pm.
@vinny: 7TWO is SD, 7mate is HD. More people have SD tuners. I think the 20+ year old episodes of Home And Away can hold off for a few days.
So if Women’s cricket is on GEM will they swich back to regular programs on Gem tonight ? or will Perth be left with a Nine simulcast (as they had issues a couple of months back).
Home and Away (old episodes) and the soaps are not on now because of the tennis.
Why couldn’t the sport be made to be shown on 7 mate ? then leave 7 two with the soaps and 7 with the news ?
All good and well to move stuff onto Gem, but maybe Go! would be more useful cos at least Foxtel Cable Customers have access to that channel!
New Apple iPhone app: Queensland Floods 2011
Thank god for extra channels so i an still watch the Tennis, you can only see the same car floating down a creek before it gets boring!
7News is continuing all day…
Thanks for that David and Steve!
I must’ve posed the question just as David was updating this page! It’s the wonderful thing in the age of Digital TV that, when News take precedence, Sport can still air as it was suppose to!
That being said, I’ll have one TV on NBN and the other on GEM! This flood crisis is devastating stuff that is holding people’s attention right around the country from first till last!!
Z Caban, Women’s Twenty20 will be on GEM at 2.30pm today.
According to twitter,Sunrise is going until 1pm today
David, What are Nine doing in terms of their Women’s 20/20 Cricket Coverage scheduled for this afternoon? Are they shifting to GO or GEM or cutting it all-together?
What about Seven’s coverage? Will they show round-the-clock coverage? And will Nine abandon all of tonight’s shows like last night to cover the floods?
Jeremy I advise info after it is provided to me. I can see Seven is continuing coverage but I have no specific info.
