Renewed: The Big Bang Theory (x 3)

With a three season renewal, Chuck Lorre's sitcom could be a contender for knocking off a Chuck Lorre sitcom.

This was rumoured and now it’s been realised.

CBS has renewed The Big Bang Theory for three seasons.

That will see the show roll through to the 2013-14 television season.

The Chuck Lorre sitcom was the top-rated scripted show on US television last season among 18- to 49-year-old viewers.

The stars of the show, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons, reportedly negotiated new contracts last year that tripled their salaries, to roughly $200,000 each per episode. Yowza.

At this rate it looks like Nine can soon start repeating the show at 7pm when that other one finally subsides.

  1. I love this show!! I’m not into science and I’ve never been known as a nerd. I’m in my late thirties so I’d say I’m a good 10 years older than the characters. I don’t relate at all to any of them yet I find it hilarious. Go figure!!!

  2. @RichoTB. 3 Virgin nerds, 1 nerd and a hot girl. (Leonard lost it to Penny)

I actually find it hilarious although it’s probably because it appeals to my inner geek and I actually understand the scientific allusions on the show. I’m not sure why soo many people bag it out just because they don’t appreciate the comedic value of the scripts.

  3. This show is not funny!! Four virgin nerds and a hot girl does not create comedy!!

Two and a Half Men is actually pretty funny even though I used to hate it. Modern Family is great as well. HIMYM was epic in the first two seasons. Haven’t seen Its Always Sunny for a few years, I should watch it again, used to love it

  4. Secret Squirrel – that put a smile on my dial! Thanks muchly.
I bagged 2.5 until i started watching it – and i get some fun out of it. maybe it speaks to the scuzzball in me, and the dork, and the fat housekeeper, and the loopy neighbour and the dismissive mother and the adolescent slob that are all within my realm of persona! It is just a sitcom – not high art – good for chuckles!

  5. The deeper comedy of this show isn’t grasped by all. For those who have an insight into the subject matter of some of the more obscure jokes, it’s hilarious. To get the most out of this show you need a passing interest in all things science, with a healthy dose of science fiction fan & a side of the gamer mentality thrown in.

  6. I admit I watch the show, because it’s generally entertaining enough if there’s nothing else to watch. It’s disposable light entertainment. It’s not terrible, but it’s not really good. Which may be it’s appeal. It’s fine. Not great or anything.

However it has gone down hill mainly because their is little growth or change in the basic premise and characters. This becomes grating with how completely unrealistic the characters are, and how the writers constantly compromise the premise of characters for standard sitcom plot lines.

@ JB – there is an element of people that believe a show to have an intellectual quality just because they reference scientific things. A couple years back I was reading comments on some forum about the show. People were seriously having conversations and comments like, “omg they mentioned string theory, i’ve heard of that. The show feels like home work but it’s so funny omg!”

Although not as bizaar as when I stumbled on a South Park forum that seemed to be full of 10 year olds. That was a couple years ago and there was a thread about Cartman calling a cat a “dildo” and how someone just realized what that meant.

  7. Like 2.5 Men, i just don’t get why people find this show funny. On Facebook so many of my friends have said how much they love BBT. They say a long scientific word and everyone laughs. Why’s that funny?

Haha! I just love how predictable our free to air Networks have become. To think the ‘Head of Programming” for these Networks are on huge salaries to do the same thing over and over again.

  9. Seasons 1 and 2 are the best. Season 3 was ok, season 4 is terrible. Kaley is missing in a couple of episodes and has minimal appearances in others due to an accident in season 4. Her absence has made the show boring. Sheldon is getting more annoying than he already is.

I’m suprised to see that there is going to be a 5th season, let alone a complete 4th season.

  10. This is good news!

OT – any reason why the rest of the lead cast didn’t get the same deal as Kaley, Jim and Johnny? I would have hoped they would have stuck together like the Friends cast did.

  11. I just can’t connect with Big Bang – i’ve tried. I really loved Johhny Galecki on Roseanne, but there is something forced in this show that puts me off – try hard.
I get more laughs out of the crude 2 and a half men, not for Sheen’s work necessarily, but Jon Cryer – who is such a fine comedic actor. I’ll have to try Big Bang again – see if it can make me laugh.
