Young Sheldon confirms final season

Big Bang prequel will end with a one hour finale in 2024.

Young Sheldon will end with its upcoming Season 7, broadcaster CBS has announced.

A one-hour series finale is set to air in the USA on May 16.

The season will also be shorter than previous runs due to the writer and actors’ strikes.

“As a prequel to one of the biggest comedies, Young Sheldon proved lightning can strike twice,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start. We extend a sincere thank you to executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing teams for six wonderful seasons. We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper send off with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”

“Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” said executive producers Steve Holland, Steven Molaro and Chuck Lorre. “We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”

The Big Bang Theory prequel, which features Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and the voice of Jim Parsons as narrator, screens in Australia on 9GO! which has screened 5 seasons.

  1. I’ve been watching Series 6 on Fox 8 …and there has not been as much focus on Sheldon…it has mostly been about Mary and here fall out with the church.. Georgie and his older pregnant girlfriend friend Mandy …a bit of Meemaw and her illicit activities…George and his neighbour Brenda…with a bit of Doctors Linkletter and Sturgess, Missy, Coach Dale and occasionally Pastor Bob….besides Ian Armitage has grown into a young man and he doesn’t come across as the precocious young kid he originally started out as…I don’t find that funny anymore….it’s become more like a soapie IMO..…to me it has run its course…when that happens it’s best to quit whilst you’re ahead and end on a high….besides that loud over the top intro with the cow, boot wearing briefcase toting Sheldon makes my teeth grate….I am forever grateful to the inventor of fast forward on that score.

  2. Young Sheldon season 6 actually arrived on Fox8 and Netflix before 9Go! Is it even on 9Go? I don’t know because I’m watching on those other platforms now. Not sure why 9 dragged their feet. It’s such a good show.

    1. Nine didn’t want to spend the money to air it so on-sold first run rights to Fox 8. Nine might air it later. It has long been rumoured that S7 would be short season to finish it off way before the strikes. Reportedly some of the cast have had enough and there was some doubt whether S7 would happen at all. After the strikes many thought it was done. As they get closer to the point where Sheldon moves to Pasadena it’s gets trickier to do Young Sheldon as a boy and something that is a prequel to Sheldon in TTBT and maintain any continuity.

  3. It was a nice enough show. I have been watching some Big Bang repeats recently and if you are somebody who freaks out about continuity, the connection between the two shows would drive you insane, for all intents and purposes young Sheldon and adult Sheldon are two completely different characters.
