Managing Director of the Nine Network, Jeffrey Browne, said: “In this great tragedy the telethon gives all Australians the opportunity to support the people of Queensland who have been touched by this natural disaster. I urge all viewers to get behind the appeal and donate generously to help alleviate the suffering and long-term effects of these floods.”

Bruce Gordon, of the WIN Network, said: “Throughout Australia the WIN Network has long supported local communities in times of crisis. Being Australia’s largest network, we understand our responsibility to the communities in which we live and we have committed the full resources of WIN to support this telethon.

“Seven of our 26 news bureaus across Australia are located in Queensland. The communities of Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba rely on their local WIN News bulletin daily, particularly in difficult times.

“Fortunately we have managed to stay on air with all stations throughout the crisis. Now we will lend the support of the whole WIN Network, which covers every State as well as the capital cities of Adelaide and Perth, to this fund-raising effort for those WIN viewers who have been disadvantaged by these disastrous floods.”

  1. Watching the appeal and there was just an email read out that Voight pry OTC donated $ 200,000. There was no plug for the company about the company , even who they ar. Only the commentators having a private joke. Come on guys that is so much money. Let Australia know who these people are. Eddie McGuire is definitely better at promoting these people. Take a page out his book guys

  2. Hey Eddie I hope I reach you I have watched the program and have watched my community in distress. I didnt see Nab give ant money and I owned a small hotel which is the one of the oldest licenced hotel in the mayborough area. The Nab bank closed my hotel and it was the only life line everyone rang to find out what the roads were like what the! now my small community has no life line I sat with them in drought and that was probally what broke me but now they need me and now the only hotel no shop no nothing is null invoid. Where is NAB its soooo sad and my heart is reaching out to my friends I will pledge $100 I wish I could do more for my community though the receivers Shut the doors and now my community has nothing Gundiah where time stops still and people are soooo amazing.

  3. @Victor

I don’t think so, all the other times are live; 6:30 in QLD = 7pm in SA, and 7:30 in the Eastern States on Daylight Saving Time. The equivalent would be 4:30 here in Perth. 7:30pm means 3 hours delayed.

  4. I have already donated to this cause but what is going to happen here is exactly like the last Australia Unites on Nine and that is plug after plug after plug for their shows. Its not about them its about the cause.

Any word on whether the other networks are going to do an appeal? I would have thought Seven might have done something seeing as they run the Telethons well.

  5. Let’s hope it raises lots of money for them though – I just noticed all the comments were rather down including mine and this is for a good cause after all !
