ABC1 has now launched its new branding via idents featuring a range of channel personalities.
With the words “Think Entertainment” it includes floating “think” bubbles, upbeat music and playful appearances from Wil Anderson, Adam Hills, Jennifer Byrne, Margaret Pomeranz, David Stratton, Myf Warhurst, Alan Brough, Todd Sampson, Russel Howcroft and Lawrence Leung.
It follows Channel Controller recently telling TV Tonight he wanted to elevate the Entertainment value of ABC1 with audiences.
A new watermark is also now on air with a single “1” above the network lissajous logo.

Love the clip 😀
Just watching ABC now….not that I like watermarks at all…
But this is okay….just a 1 and the lissajou….no heavy colour….
Who says television never teaches you nuthin! @Maev – me too, googled lissajous – new word of the day! Thanks guys. I don’t mind the look – I’ve often thought the ABC looked too blue and staid. Fresher, anyway.
So funny that video clip Michael, Oh my Lord, LMFAO!
At least the new watermark is grey and not coloured. Hopefully ABC2 will change too. Silly to have a different style logo for ABC2. Intersting to see that the letters ABC are not in the new water mark, just like SBS are not in their watermark,..
The new graphic looks like it’s been designed in-house. I’m assuming that they wanted to get away from the blue end of the spectrum and so got out their colour wheel and just used something from the opposite side. That garish blood-orange is too much. Might work for ABC3 but not the main channel.
If they had just gone with a 1:1 lissajous curve (ellipse) for ABC1, a 1:2 (8 on it’s side) for ABC2, regular logo for ABC3, and regular with an extra loop for ABC24, they could get rid of the rest of the textual clutter and have a nice clean, recognisable and thematic ident for each channel.
Yeah, it’s not great.
There will be hell to pay if the ABC ever dropped the Lissajous, Adam.
Oh lordy, I hate Todd Sampson
Thank god the bbc don’t have on-screen watermarks anymore, maybe the abc will catch up one day?
youtube.com/watch?v=n42lNEoP5zE says it all!
Michael you’re cheeky. Still a gold clip!
It’s too european looking
its still a lot of screen clutter and would look neater if someone at ABC could make up their mind which logo they prefer rather than it looking like 3 different logos stacked on top of one another. at least i’ve learned a new word today
Cut & Paste UK logos = ABC 1 logo
Lissajou…interesting….just Googled and went to wiki…..
While I prefer the watermark – I can’t stand coloured watermarks – I have to say the actual logo aint that pretty…
I like the one logo and the lissajous underneath. But why do they need the letters ABC underneath it. Every one knows what is means and what it stands for.
I like the new watermark. Smaller than the previous one and not a colour.
Looks like the golden age of ABC has arrived.
They should cut off the old ABC logo and keep the top half
ABC for Kids is coming to Think Entertainment is launched on ABC1 in 2011.
Get rid of that squiggle! It is too old and not contemporary as much!
Lissajou? This site is so educational.
I notice the new logo this morning, looks good.
Nice idea – but looks like 3 logos jammed together and it just doesn’t work.
The watermark looks terrible.
That logo is hideous! It looks like those horrible new Prime logos. What was wrong with their old logos? I quite liked them.
