  1. It could be said that this 7 vs 9 rivalry dates back to pre-TV days even as ATN7 Sydney was owned by Fairfax newspapers and TCN9 Sydney was the Packers’ Consolidated Press so they were fierce publishing rivals even before TV began and the rivalry saw Frank Packer determined to do anything (even set up a temporary studio in a church hall because the proper studios weren’t ready) to have TCN9 first on air because he wasn’t going to let Fairfax have the satisfaction of being first to launch TV.

Then in Melbourne there was HSV7 from the Herald Weekly Times newspaper group versus GTV9 which was owned by a consortium that included The Argus and The Age newspapers. So there was plenty of newspaper coverage of HSV7 in the Herald and The Sun, while The Age and The Argus (which ceased publication on the day that GTV9 opened) put the emphasis on GTV9.

  2. LOL very funny and how true australian comedy hasnt been funny since the days of fast forward the late show and D generation fast forward was the best out of them but theese days thanks to the pc police they couldnt do fast forward as good as they used to

  3. Yes David the “War” between 9 Network and 7 Network has been going on since the 70s since they are the two oldest commercial networks in australia. They will always try to outdo each other whether it be in sport, news, drama or anything else. Both had media ticoons at the helm before Kerry Packer died and both had the AFL and treated it and the viewers like crap. I doubt that anything will change in the future because they are both focused on money. Network Ten is the only network who will innovate and the other two will just copy. Still great video exactly states my point.

  4. Thanks for digging that up David. Goes to show that, while some people seem to think that this is a relatively new phenomenon, it is has been occurring in some form or another for a long time. The only thing that has changed is the technology that enables networks to behave like this, and the fact that both the tagging of “your” footage and the reuse without attribution of other’s footage is now so much more blatant.

The intrusive watermarking of footage and the subsequent obscuring of it when broadcast by another network detracts from it’s utility and makes it less pleasant to watch. How some people can say that Channel Seven News is so much better than Nine’s or that they love Nine’s news but hate Seven’s beggars belief when it’s abundantly clear to any impartial observer that they are both equally devoid of merit.

  5. Loved this sketch. The Nine sooky la la video reminded me of Fast Forward.

Seriously, can’t these pathetic middle aged men leave their size comparisons to the restrooms? No one cares. Both are guilty!
