A Country Practice reunion

Wandin Valley stars including Georgie Parker, Judith McGrath, Lorrae Desmond, Brian Wenzel and even Joyce Jacobs feature in another TV tribute.

TV’s love affair with “Where Are They Now?” reunions continues as Today Tonight airs a gathering of the former cast of A Country Practice.

November marks 30 years since Wandin Valley hit our screens and principal actors including Georgie Parker, Judith McGrath, Lorrae Desmond, Brian Wenzel  and even Joyce Jacobs feature in this tribute (although it isn’t clear if all of them are together at the same moment).

According to the promo, “The stars campaign to bring the show back.”

That would be the third incarnation for the long-running favourite.

After it ended on Seven it had a short run on TEN when it re-located it shoot from New South Wales to Emerald, east of Melbourne.

Last week A Current Affair also featured a segment on the much-loved series, with an interview with creator / producer James Davern.

It air at 6:30pm tonight on Seven.

  1. Hey please bring it back and get rid of other rubbish shows of today as it would be just as sucessful it was back then so yeah film in the same filming locations and it would be like it never stopped running as everything be new hehe 🙂 anyway Hope to see it back on air soon so please bring it back 🙂

  2. The special was missing a lot of the original cast members, but was still good too see .Its actually been nice the specials on both TT and ACA ,reuniting former stars of classic australia dramas.Anne Tenney not being present was not a shock, she doesnt enjoy interview.I wish Penny Cook and Grant Dodwell appeared would of been nice too see them ,back in the day they were the most popular couples on tv.Oh and Joan Sydney was missing too, loved her performance as Matron Sloane.

  3. O’k, so who will they track down next in this fad of people we haven’t sighted on to telly in recent year. I want to see whatever happen toChook from the Countdown Revolution or the ex members of Check 1-2.

  4. @ Armchair Analyst, yes Judith Mcgrath has had a really good run with work hasn’t she. Unlike some other actors, she should have been able to build up a nice bank balance for her retirement. I love her and hope to see her on tv again soon.

  5. @ mer – you can watch it online, I missed it as well and just watched it. A lot showed up but a few notables..simon,vicky,brendan,molly etc.. were missing. Anyway loved it and definately think ACP should be replayed on 72!

  6. I wonder why Shane Porteous, Shane Withington and Anne Tenney weren’t present?

I just watch the original on DVD rather than worrying about remakes.

  7. Yes, Yes please bring it back! This fantastic show really did work, it had everything – hospital, police and everyday people living the ‘tree change’ it had interesting stories and the best characters, it is so what television needs right now, comon.. time to ditch the 1001 cooking shows bring back some high class drama! Maybe 7two could start the seris from the beginning again -see how it goes?

  8. This show should be kept in its time line. I just dont think that it would work now especially in this tv climate. Good cast though. I think its amazing that Judith McGrath has worked on Tv in every decade since early 70s.

  9. Really looking forward to this. I wonder if Brett Climo will be there considering he has been on some Seven shows recently and isn’t doing much AFAIK.

  10. i will definatly be watching it on TT and

dont get me wrong i love the show i have every single episode on dvd including every episode of the short lived channel ten series but i would not like to see it brought back as a long running series because you just could not make it like it was channel 10 tried and look what happend

  11. There is room for A Country Practice to return (or a show in a similar vein) but the commercial networks aren’t prepared to spend that much on local productions these days unless they involve cooking, 15 minute of famer’s or a good guy bad guy scenario.

The 7:30 timeslot is devoid of anything other than American sitcoms and reality programmes.

  12. From that photo, it amazes me how some actors retain their youth, and never age. Brian Wenzel must be 80 – i remember him some 35 years ago in Certain Women and Lorrae Desmond too has been around since the earliest days of tv.
Lovely to see Jo Mitchell, Wendy Strehlow and Helen Scott again. A sweet series.
