Ally Langdon begins as new host of A Current Affair

A new host, a surprise new look but still the same ACA championing stories for Nine viewers.

Ally Langdon begins a new chapter for A Current Affair from tonight on Nine.

Fiona Dear, Executive Producer said: “The Current Affair team is excited to welcome Ally as our new host. And while we have a surprise new look, we’re still the same, listening to your stories and giving you the interviews that will get Australians talking. Bring on 2023.”

Here’s a snapshot of what to expect in her first week.

Australia’s No. 1 nightly public affairs program, which first aired on Channel 9 in 1971, is back for 2023 and will once again battle for the underdog, break big stories, feature agenda-setting interviews and undertake major investigations.

We will continue to get results for viewers when they have nowhere else to turn and provide information that makes a real difference in their lives.

This week you won’t want to miss the interview that brought Ally Langdon to tears. We’ll gain an emotional insight into one brave woman’s fight for survival at the hands of an ex. You’ll hear why she’s terrified he will strike again and learn of her campaign to protect her family and others. It comes after a shocking spate of fatal domestic violence attacks over Christmas and the New Year period.

A Current Affair goes on the front line with a police squad which has one of the most dangerous beats in Australia. Granted unprecedented access, our crew captures a dramatic game of hide and seek where one suspect is nabbed hiding under a couch.

And of course we’ll be featuring those classic ACA battles – the grandmothers fighting a serial pest, neighbours at war with homes built on top of each other, and Ally’s personal fight to help two pensioners battling for their financial survival.

Plus the celebs come out. Don’t miss our exclusive interviews with superstar Hugh Jackman and TV darling Delevene Delaney about her shock new role.

7pm Monday – Saturday on Nine.

  1. I watch Home and Away but checked out Ali in the ad breaks and she was good! She has brightened up the show and made it feel a bit more like Today at night. I wish ACA was on at 6:30 though so I could watch both ACA and H&A, I need a bit of Aussie drama at night to switch off and relax.
From what I saw Ali got amongst it and didn’t just sit behind the desk throwing to stories like Tracy did a lot of, so I might watch Ali’s interviews on catch up because she is very good at interviewing people.

  2. A Current Affair was first broadcast on 22 November 1971, with Mike Willesee, weeknights at 7:00 pm. Under Willesee, ACA was a Transmedia production for the Nine Network. When Willesee left Nine in 1974, journalist Mike Minehan took over presenting ACA. Other hosts included Sue Smith, Kevin Sanders and Michael Schildberger. The original A Current Affair was cancelled on 28 April 1978 due to strong competition in the 7:00 pm timeslot from Willesee at Seven on Seven Network and Graham Kennedy’s Blankety Blanks on the 0–10 Network. In 1984, Willesee returned to the Nine Network to revive the format in a series titled Willesee, screening Monday to Thursday at 9:30. The following year, Willesee moved to the earlier 6:30 p.m. timeslot and extended to five nights week, running until 1988, when Willesee’s Transmedia, sold the rights to the program to Nine. (Wiki)

  3. Surely the only appropriate way for Ally to kick off her first episode would be exclusive interviews with Karlos, Pup, the sister wives and their “celebrity accountant mate”. Come on, ACA, do your job!
