Angry Boys: first look

The ABC has released its first peek at Angry Boys, Chris Lilley's new comedy, which looks like being satirical, political and controversial.

The ABC has released its first peek at Angry Boys, Chris Lilley’s new 12 part comedy series, his follow up to Summer Heights High.

And by the looks of things, Lilley is back to being satirical, political and controversial.

The first characters revealed include Daniel and Nathan Sims, identical twins from Dunt. Both were seen in We Can be Heroes.

One of the new characters is, Jen Okazaki, described as “a softly spoken Japanese wife and mother of three. She is also an ambitious tyrant. Her primary focus is her son Tim, who she trained and pushed into becoming a skateboarding champion.”

The highly-anticipated series was filmed in Australia, the U.S. and Japan over a seven month period and painstakingly edited for an entire year by Lilley who is writer, director and performer.

Produced by Princess Pictures the series was made in conjunction with HBO and the BBC.

ABC1 has the global premiere but it will follow swiftly in other territories.

You can see the clip here (Warning: Language). NB: The clip is geo-blocked so as not to undermine the first UK glimpse in a Comedy Relief special later this week.

The ABC is yet to announce its airdate for the show.

  1. I’m indifferent to Lilley. I don’t dislike him & I quite enjoy his show. However, I don’t undestand all the fuss that is made about him. He’s good but not great (IMO).

  2. Fair enough if you don’t like his shows. Each to his own. But to call the guy ‘talentless’ is just plain unintelligent. Any performer will tell you that Lilley is a gifted mimic – he is extremely talented in that area.

  3. More brilliance. I suspect that some people are put off by the majority of the characters that Lilley plays being unlikeable, and in some cases, downright despicable. Once you get past that, you can enjoy all of the nuances of his detailed observations of human behaviour. Rather like “The Simpsons” in that regard.

  4. @garry Want to hear something shocking, it’s their opinion, and another shocking thing is Chris Lilley doesn’t appeal to them, he doesn’t to me either, does that mean we don’t have a sense of humour, of course it doesn’t. Obviously you couldn’t be the bigger man and let them have their opinion without berating them.

  5. @ effdee I understand you may think him ‘talentless’ but how on earth would you know if he is ‘pathetic?’ You sound like a spurned lover.

  6. boo for the geolock, boo

yeah ok I know why this thing happens, still it would be nice, if when a show is co-production, all the channels involved could care more.

I would let you guys watch a Doctor Who trailer 😉
