SBS kicks for a good cause

Politicians kick a football with The World Game's Les Murray and Craig Foster in the name of a bit of harmony.

A football match on the lawn of Parliament House yesterday between a team of former and current Socceroo and Matilda players, launched The Harmony Game for SBS -a football match that will celebrate Harmony Day later this month.

A team including Senator Kate Lundy, Stephen Conroy and Steve Fielding, to took on the team captained by ex-Socceroos midfielder and SBS chief football analyst Craig Foster – which included The World Game hosts Les Murray and David Basheer.

Harmony Day will be held on March 21 to “celebrate the cohesive and inclusive nature of the Australian community and to promote a tolerant and culturally diverse society.”

Hmm. Did any of the same pollies then watch Q & A last night while they debated our cultural cohesiveness?

“The Harmony Game marries SBS football expertise with our desire to promote a more inclusive The Australian society,” SBS’s Managing Director Shaun Brown said.

The Harmony Game was initiated by SBS’s Chief Football Analyst Craig Foster, who says: “For me football was an obvious choice for Harmony Day because it is the world game. It can be played by all ages, anywhere, anytime – as long as you have something that passes for a ball, you have a game.

SBS is encouraging primary school students to take part via The Harmony Game.

Corrected.
