Dr Yang Hengjun, the Chinese Australian blogger who went missing in China two weeks ago will appear in an exclusive interview on Mandarin News Australia this week.

The Mandarin-language news service airs on Wednesdays on SBS TWO at 5.30pm.

On March 20th Dr Yang disappeared from Guangzhou airport after phoning a friend to report that three men were following him. Commentators claimed that he had been detained as a result of government crackdown on activists and bloggers following calls for a ‘Jasmine’ revolution in China since February 2011.

He later contacted his family in Australia saying his disappearance was all a “misunderstanding”.

In the interview, Dr Yang speaks about the circumstances around his disappearance and the fact that he’s planning to return to China at the end of the month to fight for democracy.

Mandarin News Australia is Australia’s first and only free to air, locally produced in-language Mandarin news service. The program delivers high quality and impartial Chinese Australian news stories, and is subtitled in English, making it accessible to all Australians.

It airs on Wednesday 13 April on SBS TWO at 5.30pm and is repeated on SBS ONE each Sunday at 6:35am. An excerpt of the interview will be broadcast in English on World News Australia on Saturday 9 April at 6.30pm and online via sbs.com.au/chinese
