TEN sports boss to exit

Where to for ONE? TEN's head of sports David White is to exit the network after 14 years.

TEN’s head of sports David White is to exit the network after 14 years.

While there is no explanation as to why White is leaving but it is unclear if the move is linked to questions over the direction of ONE.

A TEN spokesperson told TV Tonight, “David White will be leaving Network TEN following the finalisation of the AFL rights negotiations. ONE’s program scheduling, promotions, publicity and marketing team will be reintegrated into the Network Programming team. Sports production will continue to report to the Head of Sport Production, David Barham.”

Of late ONE has been adding more general entertainment content. Next week it has the Gulf War film Jarhead starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

  1. Watching any sport especially AFL on FTA means watching advertisements infinitum. You pay about the cost of a schooner a day to get Foxsports. I think it is a matter of choice and that is why it is difficult to sustain a FTA sports channel

  2. channeli1has an add or two after each goal in AFL Fox has adds only at the end of each quater. You pay for what you get. on payand it is about a schooner a day.
Maybe this threatens the demise of any fta sports channel

  3. I think Ten is waiting to see what happens with the upcoming tv rights. If they don’t get a piece of both the NRL & AFL, OneHD will be scrapped.

  4. One have been doing a great job with their basketball. More NBA games than ESPN and it’s great getting back into the NBL now that it’s back on free TV. The Overtime basketball show has been pretty good value too.

    Well done Ten/One.

  5. simple really, the owners, see packer, murdoch who allso own fox sports 1,2,3 and fuel tv want onehd gone . not that hard to work out whats going on here people

  6. I like one hd having a little more general entertainment, I don’t wanna see tv shows like friends or simpsons but tv shows like what they have, axe men, and fishing shows are pretty good aslong as they play important sports live!

  7. The re-integration of all of One’s non-sports people back into the general network group seems like the thin edge of the wedge for a continued dilution of their sport content. That’s a shame but not unexpected.

  8. Damn, I fear for ONE.

ONE is by far my favourite channel and has introduced me into NFL, NBA, German football and has generally had some quality sports. Pity none of their good sports are in prime time and as a result they get smashed every night in the ratings whenever the F1 isn’t on.

  9. as an outsider looking in I have much respect for David White and the work that he has done. It’s a shame One couldn’t be more successful.

  10. Put the main sports in primetime and you’ll get ratings. ONE does a great job and if people are dying to watch movies on FTA then you’re on droogs. Movies are DVD/Paytv territory so having them on ONE or any FTA is a waste.

  11. Bring all the good sport back to ONE. Lately the stuff they’ve been showing has been terrible, which explains why their ratings have fallen.

  12. I reckon he’s done a very good job at TEN. They have the best AFL coverage although they don’t have much competition from 7. Well done to David White on a job well done.
