New Brisbane production company

A new production company was announced for Brisbane this week, to develop new international film and television projects.

A new production company was announced for Brisbane this week, Ploughed Field Productions.

Set to develop new international film and television projects, the company is helmed by Robin James,  former Chief Executive of the Pacific Film and Television Commission and mining entrepeneur Tony Gilby, director of Walcot Capital.

James’ career includes roles television production with the ABC, plus positions with the US- based Association of Film Commissioners International and membership of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Iemmys).

The company begins at the modest end of the market looking at projects from children’s to adult drama and genre pictures.

“Tony and I see real opportunities for a company to be based in Australia but to be developing and producing film and television for the international market,” says James.

“With Tony’s background as a venture capitalist and my intense involvement over many years in both Australian and international production, our combined skill sets will enable us to identify and develop projects for production by Ploughed Field and also to work with other producers on selected projects by cashflowing the Producer Offset.”

  1. Good afternoon

I have found your website after looking for television production companies. The reason I am contacting you is for direction. I have a story and have written 12 chapters. I was going to go down the route of traditional publishing, yet I have been suggested to maybe run it as a TV series. I dont know whats involved but thought I would ask for an expert opinion to see how realistic it may be.
I would truly appreciate any direction you may offer in my initial stages.

    Many thanks

    1. Mathew: Best advice I can suggest is to find a Producer you think would be interested in your genre and ask them if they accept unsolicited material. They will ask for a one page synopsis, then if interested probably a series outline or script. If your book is published you will probably have a better shot, but it depends on the individual. You could consider joining the Aust. Writer’s Guild as an Associate Member for more personalised assistance. Good luck.

  2. I think it would be great if we had a one big production company so at leas we could have some quality programs being commisioned or made. I think the current batch of production companies are too small to do anything meaningful they just dont have the amount of staff and the budget to make shows of international standard which australian’s have become acustamed to.

  3. Mr Plough, if you want a success go straight to the writer first. That’s where all the good stuff is. The producers have too much power here and that’s why nothing works – they drag down everything they touch.
