Oops. That’s not Osama.
On Monday Nine News showed a photo of the dead al Qaeda leader. Or did they?

In the fury to cover the major news story of the death of Osama bin Laden, Nine News appeared to air a fake photo of the dead al Qaeda leader last night.
The report said, “Normally Nine News avoids broadcasting images of the dead. But tonight because of the extraordinary circumstances, we plan to show a photo of the dead al Qaeda leader. It was first broadcast on Pakistani television and is now circulating around the world.”
But following the weather last night, Nine was forced to qualify its report.
You can see how the photo was faked here.

@Craig, 9 news won in Melbourne last night!!! They have won in Melb – Good Friday Appeal – Anzac Day – The Royal Wedding and the death of Osama Bin Laden. When big news breaks they go 2 – 9 News in Melb!!!
if nine doesn’t normally show pictures of the dead, then how come we see so much of Karl…..? lol
@David – You know I was joking right?
Personally I didn’t need to see that photo.
So where did Nine get the picture from?
Pirated from a web site?
Pirated from a Pakistani TV channel?
“Yes” to all.
Was a credit “courtesy of” given?
Did it come from one of the news agencies?
“No” to all.
“Before its news” showed this picture a few weeks ago as him being killed in December 2001,it was’nt believeable then and certainly isn’t now.
Poor 9.
Looks like Nine jumped the gun.
Bring back Hey Hey
The rush to be first….failed
And they came 3rd Monday, I wonder why?
Because of MasterChef and Loser.
At least Channel 9 News is consistent (consistently bad).
wendy reported there was a fake picture circulating the internet on the 4:30 news. she must have been horrified when she saw that in front of her knowing she would have to make up for it with “breaking news; its fake”. poor woman.
looks like 9 fell for it hook, line and sinker. every other major news that reported it surrounded the announcement with “rumoured to be”, “reportedly”, “allegedly” ect. which is poor form from 9 even it did turn out to be real, because there was nothing close to confirmation.
next it will be Jackie Chan is dead when “RIP Jackie Chan” tops the trending topics.
7 showed the same photo in the afternoon news and made it clear it was unconfirmed. 5 mins later they advised it is a fake
Channel 9, your lack of journalistic integrity is disgusting!
It’s mistake after mistake after mistake with Nine.
The Sydney morning Herald posted it first before the 6pm news
Well i IQ’d both Nine and Seven News to see the different style of reporting on this story from both. I was surprised at how no other News service was showing this picture. I then looked online and saw how it was fake. Not good Nine.
Idiots Nine. ABC reported there were photos circulating and that they had been shown on Pakistani television but were unverified so they didn’t broadcast it. Nine has no journalism integrity at all
sorry i do not agree that this picture should have been shown, true or fake. disappointing nine.
Jeff Goldblum is dead????
Nine News used to be the best but it’s absolute rubbish these days. And as for A Current Affair, words fail to describe how awful that show is.
awesome job by ch9, they rarely fail to stuff things up
“Only on Nine” or “See it First on Nine”.
Living up to their slogans.
fox news did it as well. but we all now they hate obama and trump and palin do the tele prompters for them
nine was made to look like fools again
