Airdate: Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year

Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year is coming to Thursday nights on Nine, later this month.

Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year starts Thursday July 28th at 8:30pm on Nine.

The airdate was announced on their radio show this afternoon.

“We looked through all the emails and it appeared that a girl called Narelle had netball on Monday nights, Dennis generally Skyped his mother in London on Wednesday evenings, and a bloke called Johnno was pretty keen to hit the clubs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

“With all that in mind, it just makes sense for the show to be on Thursday nights at 8.30pm. Channel Nine agreed that it would be a shame if Johnno missed it.”

Nine Network Director of Television, Michael Healy, said: “We are excited to see what the team will uncover as they make their way across the US and share their unique experiences.”

Hamish Blake has previously said of the project: “The whole point of this gap year is to see where the journey will take us, who we might meet, and what might happen. Sort of like a choose-your-own-adventure book, but hopefully with fewer dragons. Actually on second thought, finding a dragon would be terrific. We should look into that.”

The pair signed a lucrative deal with Nine earlier this year.

  1. I love these guys on radio but they have never been good on TV. I hope this might be different but it would have to be a radical improvement in addition to the fact Nine is not the right place for them….

  2. @ David Knox, so going on your idea that ‘consistent results’ make for a decent network, Ten must be going great with their lack of any decent figures at 9.30pm weeknights! If Nine is struggling, Ten is taking its last gasp before death.

  3. The ads for the show have not really been funny. It might as well have been like the “Asses of Fire 2” ad on South Park – it doesn’t really give any idea of what the show is about.

I’ll give it one viewing because I actually liked Real Stories and The Hamish & Andy Show (Seven), but didn’t particularly get into their travelogue specials. My feeling is that Gap Year will be more like the latter than the former shows unfortunately: but I’ll give it a try.

If it’s anything like their radio show though – I might not last the first ad break!

  4. @Jezza Nine are definately on the resurgence. The Voice will be a smash-hit and this could easily fetch 1.5 million considering that in their prime, they were listened to by 2 million.
The only downfall is their lack of Australian drama. They need more but with the Voice costing a whopping $25 million it seems unlikely anything huge is on the horizon.
Apart from that, Nine could win the 2012 season.

    1. Tmorgan: Viewers always benefit when from healthy opposition but one show performing well such as The Block does not qualify as a resurgent network. That comes from increased market share which requires consistent results across a seasonal performance. Nine’s upcoming content does sound promising but let’s wait for results first.

  5. Hamsih & anonymous will be big for ch9. They have a very wide fan base. Whether they keep the viewers, is an entirely different matter, ch9 tend to overkill anything that rates well for them. It could easily be Hamish & anyone as the other bloke just doesn’t register.

Ch9 are coming back stronger in the second half after capitulating for the first half of the year.

  6. I listened to their radio show today too , and I feel their latest radio shows aren’t nearly as entertaining as they were when the were in Melbourne doing it live or when they were doing their caravan of courage shows around the world..The show lacks their old spark.Hope the TV show is alot better..

  7. I think, like The Block, this will go gang busters for Nine. Law and Order should still stack up well so i think Seven will be the one to suffer most on Thursdays for a little while.

I just can’t wait to see if Hamish gets any fatter!

  8. Let’s see… Hamish and Andy are replacing The Human Body…

I think there’s something in that for all of us, isn’t there?

  9. Hamish and Andy could not have chosen a worse night to premiere their new show: the night of MasterChef’s final elimination. In the past two years Ten won the night on the back of the massive 2 million-plus audience for MC. So good luck to the boys.
