Dani wins MasterChef Immunity

As predicted, Dani Venn did indeed win an Immunity pin on MasterChef Australia last night.

As predicted, Dani Venn did indeed win an Immunity pin on MasterChef Australia last night.

The 25 year old publicist went head to head with Alessandro Pevoni, whipping up his own creation. But Pevoni was denied a recipe for his own dish that he hadn’t cooked in some time, while Dani was given the essentials, plus a head start.

By the time the challenge was over, the judges had them tied on 22 points each -enough for Dani to nab a prized Immunity pin.

But her good fortune had already been fore-shadowed by a promo for tonight’s group challenge, which showed her clearly wearing an Immunity pin.

Tonight’s 90 minute episode will also resolve the outcome for Mat Beyer, who has been widely reported as having been booted from the show in one of the season’s biggest dramatic turns.

But just how will it play out?

  1. Anyone surely could have predicted the oucome of last night’s ‘challenge’. Surely judgements can be made by determining the owner of the dish by their plating skills. Imagine how the other contestants would feel? If I were them I would be thinking I may as well pack my things and go home. I am personally over tuning into this show. In my opinion it is a fraction of what it was in season one where the best cook, not publicity magnet, actually had a shot at winning. I hope if it gets another season that it returns to its former glory. How disappointing, sigh.

  2. It’s a blind tasting…. how can there be bias?

I’m no fan of Dani but can see why she gets more air time, she is obviously more interesting when it comes to commentary. She smiles, she explains the event and give a little laugh at the end. Any producer would lap that up so it’s no wonder. Some of you guys need to step off the conspiracy train.

  3. I think if it is an immunity challenge, then the contestant shouldn’t get help from the challenger.

Last night Alessandro and his apprentice helped Way too much which probably explains the tied vote – plus, they obviously knew the Chef’s plate was second purely on the plating presentation – which would explain Matt giving the chef a 7 knowing he’d given Dani an 8.

  4. Yeah, a very disappointing outcome last night.

We can’t taste, but we can see presentation wise, Dani blew it.
I really hope for the show’s sake they are handling tonight’s episode with class.

  5. I agree with most of the people who have commented previously: There is a clear bias towards Dani and Ellie, and also some major love for Hayden amongst the judges (and in some media reports, sources at the publishing house that will release the cookbook say they are crossing their fingers for a photogenic Hayden to win).

Personally I would love to see Peter get into the final three, if not the grand finale.

  6. I knew that they were desperate for the contestants to have and use the immunity pins just like anyone other reality show. When they made ity easier in the Tuesday Night head to head having them chose the recipe, getting chefs to make a recipe from a cuisine that is not their strength. Having their apprentice do the challenge

  7. I agree Scott. I was waiting for Matt to explain how he could possibly have scored Dani more. And if Dani didn’t get so much help plating up she’d never have come even close.

  8. @bettestreep, I agree with you. Blatant bias by the judges this year towards camera loving Dani, pretty young thang Ellie and, at least in my opinion, MC poster child Hayden, who appears to be a protected species. Note they are all under 25 – Gen Y rules. Alana may as well not be there, she has been given minimal camera time at best and just sort of floats in the background like a phantom. I know next to nothing about her and have seen very little of her cooking. I predict a Dani-Hayden grand final. Snore. Zzzzzzzzzzz. Bring on MKR, please.

  9. I’m excited about tonight’s episode. Though what does it say for the brand when the most exciting episode in ages revolves around a cheating scandal and the removal of one of the contestants…?

  10. I didn’t see the immunity pin during the promos.

I just knew she would win immunity given the gobsmacking bias the judges have shown towards her and the other PYT Ellie during this series.

I would be very surprised if Danni and Ellie don’t make it to the final 2.

This series started so well but it has evolved into a Danni and ellie lovefest.

And I bet if one of these girls were found to have “broken the rules” like Matt did – they would have been given a stern reprimand and be allowed to continue with the competition.

  11. I thought it was 22 points each. That poor chef, his apprentice and him losing isn’t really good business marketing now is it.

Reckon it’ll be a Danni & Hayden final. How uninspiring. Bring on MKR.

  12. Unbelievably clear bias with scores tonight. Dani’s plating was ordinary at best yet she didnt seem to lose any points for it at all. For Matt to score her dish higher than a Hatted chef is just mind blowing – notice that he didnt give any reason as to why?

  13. For me I’m not sure if I see a draw as a win for the immunity pin as Dani didn’t beat the chef the scores were equal. Looking forward to see what happens tonight with Mat.

  14. Glad to see Dani win immunity. Love her or hate her, she has improved a lot since the beginning of the season. She’s also one of the bubbliest and most entertaining contestants left.
