Glee not yet over for Overstreet?

Glee writers still want Chord Overstreet as a semi-regular if he is interested in remaining.

All may not be over for Overstreet.

Following reports that Chord Overstreet (Sam) did not have his option for Glee renewed, now there is some clarity that leaves the door open.

“His option to be a series regular was just not picked up at this time,” a source tells TV Line.

“If Chord wants to appear on Glee, the choice is his. The Glee writers like his Sam character, and have plans to write for him. He and his reps have been told that he is welcome back to Glee, and everyone hopes he will show up on August 10 when filming begins.”

The insider points out that it took Harry Shum two years to become a regular.

“If Chord has a great season, which we expect he will, then he will become a regular like Harry, possibly as early as January.”

This fits with the unfinished season closer that showed Sam’s character suddenly dating Mercedes in a surprise twist. It didn’t make sense that writers would set this up -specifically placed as the season’s final twist- and then not return the character.

Overstreet’s camp declined to comment.

  1. i agree with Julia.

they spent the last few episodes actually giving him a story and character growth, which let’s face it, there was absolutely ZeroERO of during Season 2, with Any of the characters, the producers have admitted that.

That’s why Season 3 has been said to have less music and more story. I hated Sam at first ’cause there was no reason for him to be there but now he’s finally made his place in the show. I hope he sticks around a bit longer.

  2. Ugh. Why spend the last part of the season developing this character (who actually has musical talent) only to give him the shaft?

I’d much rather they get rid of Lauren Zizes, who adds nothing to the show. If they really want Puck to have some sort of growth, how about getting him and Quinn to address the fact that they had a baby together?

    So frustrating.

  3. How ironic. He was 1st introduced to be Kurt’s Boyfriend (Jane Lynch let the cat out of the bag in a interview) & then either Overstreet or the producers got cold feet & so they brought Blaine in.
