Emmy snubs, and should Olivia have been included as In Memoriam?

Every year, big name shows are overlooked when trophies are handed out. Here are some from 2022.

Not everyone can be a winner at the Emmy Awards yesterday.

But fans of Better Call Saul are disappointed the show was not a winner in its final season, especially for stars Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn.

Only Murders in the Building also missed out, settling on 3 wins from its 17 nominations in the Creative Arts ceremonies.

Stranger Things, similarly, scored 13 nominations, but only five wins, all outside of the main telecast.

Severance, Barry, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Yellowjackets also lucked out yesterday. And I have no idea why The Offer was not even nominated.

Not even The Amazing Race which managed to trek the globe after a pandemic scored a win, losing to Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

Fans of Olivia Newton-John took to social media to question her absence from the In Memoriam showcase.

Newton-John had appeared in TV series including Sordid Lives: The Series, Bette, Murphy Brown, Tracey Takes On, Glee and Ned and Stacey as well as starring in telemovies A Mom for Christmas, A Christmas Romance, The Wilde Girls, Sharknado (with daughter Chloe Lattanzi), The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee.

While singing on music shows may not warrant inclusion, nor the big screen hit Grease, those small screen acting roles all pass the pub test.

  1. I couldn’t even get through the first episode of Abbott Elementary, yet it won multiple awards. As for Lizzo, I had to good was a Lizzo was or is to then uncover what the show was. Doesn’t sound Emmy winning to me.

  2. Meat Loaf was an actor as well as a singer but he was in the memoriam during the Grammys so the same will probably be the case for Olivia. There’s heaps of shows that should have been nominated but weren’t. Where was This is Us or Sheldon. This is Us had a brilliant final season. And there’s no way any of those comedies nominated were funnier than Sheldon. Network TV just gets ignored for Awards. Maybe they need a separate category for Network shows & streaming/cable shows. There are heaps of great shows on Network TV that have been ignored in recent years.
