Josh Horner would do it all again

He was thrown in the deep end as the new judge on Dancing with the Stars, but Josh Horner has no regrets.

He was thrown in the deep end, replacing Mark Wilson as a judge on Dancing with the Stars, but Josh Horner says he would do it all again.

Horner hadn’t had any television experience of this scale before and his “sack of potatoes” comment to Brynne Edelsten in week one attracted a lot of negativity. Then there were those crossfire remarks with Todd McKenney.

But he tells TV Tonight he is relieved the show is over.

“It’s a very ‘happy relief’ not an unhappy relief. It’s the end of the show, it’s a competition and you got to the end of the competition. So it’s just a natural excitement,” he says.

“I had fun when we had a bit of controversy over Damien Leith. Todd gave a 5, Helen gave a 9 and I thought, ‘Well how’s this for controversy? 10!

“The worst moment was the first week when I was shellshocked with what TV’s all about and welcome to the world of television.

“The team felt foreign at first but I’ve finished with new friends so that’s a good thing.”

So would he be happy to return to the show?

“Absolutely, yes. Definitely. When do we start?”

  1. How about the producers really stir it up next year and put Josh in Todds chair to cause a bit of trouble. They do this sort of thing on UK Xfactor. It gives the tabloids and shows like Today Tonight a bit of fodder. The puss on Todds face would be gold.

  2. To be honest I thought he was a massive tool at the start but somehow I grew to enjoy him and his style of judging. Giving Brynne a bedazzled sack of potatoes as a gift during the finale was hilarious.

  3. I like his strident energy – book ended egos with Todd and his florid but entertaining shtick, and Josh with his younger slightly bullish exuberance. He found his feet in the last few weeks. Not an easy gig to walk into.

  4. I thought at the beginning he was a bit too try-hard and it didn’t suit him. But by the finale he was more relaxed and had a laugh at husown expense and he was much better.

  5. First noticed the budding Josh in Graeme Murphy’s “Tivoli” when I gave him a big thumbs up in the theatre review column I was writing at the time.

By just a few weeks, we missed his performance on Broadway as older Billy in “Billy Elliott” several years later.

This kid from Wyong has so much potential – I’m so glad to see him evolving into the talented all-rounder he is becoming.

    Keep it up, kid.

  6. Reminds me of Mark Holden on Idol with all the stupid faces and remarks. I stopped watching DWTS because of Josh and after Brynne left. He’s too much of an attention-craver.

  7. I don’t actually recall the show introducing Josh to the viewer. I watched the whole series and, to this day, I still don’t know who he his, what he’s done, or why he’s there.
