So who else has been cast in ABC1’s new At Home with Julia comedy?
Here’s the list according to the ABC including with all their cheeky descriptions:
Kevin Rudd played by Paul McCarthy (Comedy Inc. – The Late Shift)
Paul Keating played by Jonathan Biggins (STC Wharf Revue)
Tony Jones played by Jonathan Biggins (they obviously ran out of money)
Wayne Swan played by Alan Dukes (Beneath Hill 60)
Bob Katter played by Drew Forsythe (freaking STC Wharf Revue again)
Rob Oakeshott played by Jim Russell (Comedy Inc. – The Late Shift)
Tony Abbott played by Nicholas Cassim (Tough Nuts, All Saints)
Alan Jones played by Geoff Moxham (in his first, and quite possibly last, TV appearance)
Oh I so hope this works…..
The “political satire / love story/ Federal Police surveillance target” will have a swift turnaround, to keep the material as relevant as possible. It will premiere on Wednesday, September 7 at 9.30pm, replacing Judith Lucy’s Spiritual Journey.
There are just 4 half hour episodes (if it looks good on spec can they boost the output?).
Leading the series as Julia Gillard in The Lodge is Amanda Bishop (STC Wharf Revue, Double Take, Penelope K by the way) with Phil Lloyd as Tim Mathieson (Review with Myles Barlow).
Bring it on.

Who played Julie Bishop in At Home with Julia?
Amanda Bishop played 2 roles.
I can’t wait before someone uses their parliamentary privilege to bring this up in Question Time …
This looks like the worst tv show ever. Up late game show with hot dogs actually looks respectable in comparison to this. What is the ABC thinking?
Didn’t know it was actually possible to smell a word, but unbelievably I smell Lame.
@ Steve Sydney
People will vote for Julia just for a chance of abc renewing the show
Loooooooooooooooooooooool
Great show but sad how there will only be 4 eps
Abc Please make more @ home with Julia
Is keven Rudd playing himself i mean realy the guy who plays k.Rudd plays him perfectily
Sheesh.. are you all idiots???? It’s the real people in a fly-on-the-wall documentary. Off now to my Greens’ meeting.
Just watched the trailer you posted David,& the actress playing Juia Gillard is so close to the real Julia, this is going to be so good to watch.
Just saw the trailer on a website called pedestrian.tv. Seems appropriate.
@rub-a-dub Not sure u and I saw sane trailer. Really didn’t like? Thought it was not only funny but looked really well made!
i just saw that trailer and all my hopes of it being good was reduced! how sad! 🙁
People need not worry about the casting- it couldn’t be any worse than the bunch they picked to play the comedy show in Canberra
Cant wait for this. Love pollitical satire. As Rutzie said Paul McCarthy is a very good and obvious choice for playing Kevin Rudd. I wonder if Terrase Rane will get a look in as a cameo here and then that would work perfectly. This show has the potential to be very good hopefully it does become very good.
@Adam Oriti Art No they didn’t. One has nothing to do with other. Completely diff bits of ABC. Are you drunk?
They should have cast Kath from Kath & Kim for Julia? was she not available?
I’ve seen Amanda Bishop’s playing Julia Bishop in a comedy sketch show, and she really wasn’t very good. I enjoy characterisations that are close to the mark, but she is nowhere near it.
Def looks like it’ll be worth checking out but not in that timeslot for me. Hope they repeat it on ABC2.
But it always comes back to the writers. As someone said recently, “Don’t write crap. Can’t be too hard”.
Paul McCarthy’s K-Rudd is spot on. Good casting there.
@WayItIs huh? Kalowski did Comedy Inc Late Shift, didn’t he? Which was great.
@Paully Think it’s written by Amanda, Kalowski and Phil Lloyd together.
I have a feeling this will increase Julia’s popularity… I mean.. it couldn’t get any worse at this point.
Ok, so ABC dropped art productions for this. Boring….
to quote Conan O’Brien…. ” It Looks Gooood!”
who is writing it?
Here’s hoping we get to “laugh”. Rick Kalowski’s track record… it ain’t great.
