Charlotte Dawson: “I’m supposed to be the ‘tough-love bitch.'”

Even Reality TV judges are given a character brief. Next Top Model judge Charlotte Dawson spills the beans to TV Tonight.

Is Reality TV scripted? Yes and no. Depends which moment you are talking about.

But producers certainly expect their cast to adhere to a character brief as Australia’s Next Top Model judge Charlotte Dawson explained to TV Tonight.

“When we are doing these shows, we are given a brief as to what our role is, and we have to stick to that role,” she said.

“I’m told what character to do and I’m happy to be that character and respond to that character.

“I’m supposed to be the ‘tough-love bitch.'”

So is her on-screen persona indicative of her own personality?

“As a person no, but as a character on a TV show yes. It’s entertainment. It’s just a telly show. That’s the job you do. It’s awesome to be paid to be a mole!” she joked.

“Alex (Perry) has got to dish out the tough-love too and Sarah (Murdoch) is the anchor, the supermodel in the middle and Josh (Flynn) is more the mentor.”

Cycle 7, now produced by Shine Australia, begins with a 90 minute episode and a shock ending.

“We start with 100 girls and at the end of episode one there’s a massive surprise, and really the end of episode one will set the tone for the whole series,” she explains.

“We up the ante, but we do every year because we’re a destination programme and we’ve got a really loyal audience. They love the format, they love the show, they don’t want their show messed with or changed. But they do expect bigger and better all the time.”

Australia’s Next Top Model premieres 7:30pm Monday on FOX8

  1. hmmm last night episode was a bit of a waste, 100 to 50 then to 30 , then 20 I think (lost count of the cuts) they have just could have just picked the Top 16 contestants like previous shows and gone str8 to the action

  2. Word around the halls is this season is a mess anyway, maybe if Charlotte and Alex and Sarah can say it enough times in articles and press releases it will seem like Shine haven’t totally stuffed it. Fingers crossed.

  3. I never bought her being the tough bitch personality in real life..

I remember watching her on The Beauty and The Beast and there were times she would get eaten alive by the other women on the panel and she hardly ever stood up to Stan… good times

  4. “So is her on-screen persona indicative of her own personality?”

Surely the question is -‘So is her or Alex Perry’s face indicative of any natural facial expressions?”

While this show continues I’ll be investing my money in Australia’s botox industry.
