Matthew Newton: “I was a lost soul”
Matthew Newton has given a contrite radio interview in which he denies being estranged from his parents.

Performer Matthew Newton has given a contrite interview to Kyle and Jackie O’s radio show in which he has spoken about his year of rehab, but puts to rest speculation that he is estranged from his showbiz parents.
“The only distance between me and my parents is 1000km – I live in Sydney and they live in Melbourne,” he said.
“The great thing about family is that through any ups and downs they’re always going to be there for you. You know that there is a core group of people in your life that, as I say, throught thick and thin will support you. You support them.
“As you (Jackie O) would know, children in a family is just a magic thing.”
Last year Newton was dropped as host of The X Factor immediately before its launch. Bert and Patti Newton then gave a candid interview on A Current Affair.
Since then there has been ongoing speculation that he has been at odds with his parents.
“I was kind of estranged from everybody,” Newton concedes.
“It’s been a huge year of reflection. There are certain things that I had to take stock of. It sounds corny, but to stop and smell the flowers.
“I was a lost soul in a lot of ways.
“I feel like I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in.”

Matt is an extremely talented actor, singer and entertainer – give him a break, let him prove he regrets his mistakes and can climb back to the top.

It’s disgusting that the media should choose to let him back in. Say no to Newton anything! Don’t support him, don’t allow him back in. Our society needs to demand safety for women and the family unit. It is up to us to demand it.

i heard this interview in my car on the way home tonight and just thought “why are they even giving this guy airtime” and then i realised it was the kyle and jackie o show – 2 of the dumbest people on air
Did he say sorry to his victims?
Or was this about trying to restore his image?
Hope he is getting better, he is very talented and if he can get all of his crap sorted out he has a lot to contribute.

The best thing Matthew Newton could do for himself and the rest of us is go and get a job bricklaying or something. Stay away from cameras and press and be quiet.

Kyle and Jackie O did a fantastic interview.
If 60 Minutes, Today Tonight, Current Affair or a newspaper did an interview with Matthew they would have spined, twisted and turned it around to make Matt look like a bad guy.
Granted what he has done is wrong but as least Kyle and Jackie gave him one hour live on air, unedited and straight from the horses mouth.
Clearly none of you understand that!
Again a woman basher is given airtime because of his surname. Disappointed David, he hasn’t done enough entertaining to be given this sort of attention just for giving a radio interview.
It’s a clever move to go on Kyle & Jackie O. Do people outside of Sydney actually know how many people listen?

Matthews mother supported him at all of his court appearances. Neither Bert or Patti would ever turn their backs on one of their children. It is amazing what b.s the media comes up with sometimes.

I hope that’s true and he’s back in a good place in his life.
Though his judgement in giving this interview to Kyle and Jackie O is questionable at best.
