Kelsey Grammer lets rip at Sunrise producer

Kelsey Grammer let fly at a Sunrise producer after questions about his ex-wife -but it had all been cleared with his Publicist.

Kelsey Grammer’s visit to Sunrise went pear-shaped on Wednesday after a hostile backstage reaction to an interview with David Koch and Natalie Barr.

The former Frasier actor was asked about his third marriage to Camille Donatacci who appears in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

The interview included footage of him kissing his ex-wife on her US reality show while his new wife Kayte Walsh was watching in the studio.

But as soon as the interview ended, Grammer demanded to speak to entertainment producer Mark Beirne, whom he called on the phone and let rip. Wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that voice!

News Ltd quotes him as saying: “You are a vile person … a sick dog … your life must be tragic … I feel sorry for you,” he was heard screaming.

Today at the National Radio Conference on the Gold Coast he defended his outburst, reports SKY News, “I won’t be doing them again, my outburst was deserved.” He was also quick to change the subject during a Q&A session.

However a Seven source tells TV Tonight that Grammer’s publicist had agreed with Beirne prior to the interview that nothing was off the record, including discussion of his former wife’s reality television show.

  1. Just a brash American or is he Canadian that things Australia is small time stuff.

After all apart from Cheers, Frasier and some X-Men – who is he?

    No one

  2. @James – Can you not understand that the “Seven source” is obviously lying??

Kelsey has done radio interviews as well as others on television such as Angela Bishop interviewing him for 6.30 and at all other times there has been no mention of his former marriage. Think about it… If truly nothing is off limits then do you suspect Sunrise are the only show ‘smart’ enough to ask him about his ex wife?

    1. Steve, while you are free to agree or disagree with Sunrise’s interview strategies, I would prefer you not to accuse my sources of lying? You don’t know who my source is, let alone how reliable they have been in the past.

  3. So this is commercial network journalism in Australia today. We really shouldn’t be surprised though. This network has form as does Nine.

    Agree with Newtaste.

  4. Lots of Sunrise hate here.
If the publicist had said ‘nothing is off the record’ there why wouldn’t Sunrise ask questions abut Kelsey’s recent divorce. Love & Breakups sell magazines….it’s no different for television.
If his publicist is too blame, his tirade was ill targeted.

  5. What’s the bet his idiot local PR person didn’t pass that info on to him about ‘nothing being off limits’.

And as everyone here says, in any event what would possess Sunrise to run such footage with the guy’s new wife there? No class. How awful.

  6. Seriously…the guy has worked in TV…what did he expect? He should know appearing on any show that he might be asked sensitive questions. Thats how it works.

  7. Who really cares, this appears to be a beat-up. People with any intelligence aren’t watching Sunrise, and does anyone consider Kelsey Grammer a ‘big’ celebrity anymore.

  8. While I dislike the Sunrise morning program as most of their hosts are pathetic and their reporting and interviewing skills are poor, I also have no empathy for Kelsey Grammer. After all he was sleeping with his present wife while his third wife was under the impression she was in a happy marraige. He was having an affair. He is a bit of a dog in heat so I actually think it is quite amusing that he was embarrassed when footage of him kissing his third wife was shown and his fourth wife had to watch it. Wish I had been watching that silly program for a change….would have been a good laugh.

  9. He is a multiple award winner, star of some of the most significant sitcoms of the 20th century, continues to work consistently, is a part of pop culture history with his work as Sideshow Bob. He is out here to host the national radio awards, reason being for not only his acting career but also radio and VoiceOver career.

If you’ve got an hour to interview him, you still wouldn’t need to sink to the gutter to ask him about his ex or show tacky footage of her reality show. Shows the difference between “news” and “Tabloid trash”.

  10. Yuk, the way that played out was awful,to show him kissing his ex in front of his wife knowingly is absolutely terrible, surely they would have decided not to do it once seeing her.
And they PR themselves as family friendly…
Makes you wonder what was said to the PR to ok that, surely any PR in their right mind wouldn’t allow that.

  11. Sunrise is an embarassment – international guests should avoid appearing on thier show, gutter journalism at its best. Good on him for getting upset over it.

  12. Channel 7 just lacks any viewing standards but every thing that happened was predictable and warranted except for the comment by “mark” who should just restrict his viewing habits to the 7PM show where He ,Comrade Charlie and Dipsy can wallow in there collective Socialist utopia.

  13. He may have said nothing was off the record but showing footage of the man making out with his ex-wife, while his new wife sitting right there shows a lack of class.

  14. I heard two radio interviews with Grammer and his personal life wasn’t raised. No need to as his career is so interesting. Sunrise is gutter trash.

  15. I saw this programme and they looked liked they had tricked him and took him completely by surprise. He handled it extremely well though. The footage they showed was inappropriate and I don’t blame him for having a go.

  16. I don’t watch morning tv very often, but I did see that interview, and you wouldn’t have known that Kelsey was upset. He certainly hid it well
