From tonight Nine launches a late-evening news bulletin via an iPad app.

Nine is moving on the late night bulletin because iPad usage spikes at 10pm before people go to bed and TEN recently vacated the last late night News bulletin by commercial Free to Air networks just over a week ago.

Nine News boss Mark Calvert told The Australian, “We believe we can grow our overall audience through this, reaching additional viewers who might not catch our scheduled TV bulletins.

“The massive uptake for the iPhone app has shown us the way and now the iPad takes our news and current affairs offering to a whole new level.”

Nine has launched seven apps for the iPhone, but this is the first specifically for the iPad platform.

The Newsbreak app also includes A Current Affair and Today videos.

Other networks including Seven, ABC and TEN also play news clips within their existing network and News apps, while ABC News 24 simulcasts live on iPad.
