Oops. Counting too darn tricky for The X Factor.

Did Mel B. really mean to send Audio Vixen home from The X Factor or can she just not count?

You gotta love live telly. Last night’s X Factor verdict show was a night of confusion, and it all boiled down to the inability of people to count properly.

When the judges were forced to choose between Audio Vixen and Johnny Ruffo it came down to a casting vote by Mel B.

With two votes for Ruffo and one vote for Audio Vixen, she began her preamble by saying, “One thing for sure is I’m not going to go to Deadlock.”

That meant Ruffo would be getting her vote and going home. But by the time she finished her comments she announced Audio Vixen for her vote -sending both acts into Deadlock. What the?

There were looks of confusion on the faces of the judges, with Mel B. even heard to say “Shit, sorry.”

Host Luke Jacobz threw the vote back to the original audience vote and Audio Vixen were sent packing.

So did Mel B. really mean to see Audio Vixen leave or can she just not count?

But counting also got the better of Chris Isaak, singing Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman. As anyone who has ever warbled this tune knows (yes, even I admit to goin’ there), those final bars at the end of the song are an absolute killer.

“She’s walkin’ back to meeeeee…… yeah……. she’s walkin back to meeee….. woahhhh”

It’s notorious for requiring singers to keep count.

Isaak knew something was up when he began looking at his band members towards the end of his performance.

But despite his confusion he still managed to finish the song ahead of them. Meatloaf would have been proud.

Despite the royal stuff-up The X Factor judges gave him a standing ovation. Would they do the same for one of their own finishing ahead of the music?

Isaak was so embarrassed he made a gag about being eliminated from the show. And then another about kids growing hair on their head and improving their sex life (hey, PG rated show, nice!).

Ahh live telly.

  1. i definately agree with Mel’s philosophy that vocal ability is not as important as things like likeability, stage presence, attitude ect and that Audio Vixen struggled in those areas. but i still think AV should have stayed over johnny. SMS reality shows are not friendly to women which handicapped AV the judges should take that into account when they vote.

  2. I’m calling it now: the top three will be Rhys, Christina and YMS

I said it in the TV Lounge thread last night but I’m not surprised Audio Vixen went home. They were great in week 1 but since then have been rather dull.

I’d love to see Mitchell go, that guy irritates me and I don’t mean to be superficial but what’s with the tattoo on his neck, it’s ridiculous

  3. Audio Vixen are an amazing talented trio. Johnny’s voice isn’t strong enough to go much further in the competition but the tweens seem to like his looks. If your going on talent the wrong contestant’s were eliminated.. As far as Mel B is concerned but I have to burst her ego bubble… You commented that you were not going into deadlock, and you did, then 2 seconds before you you cast your decision your eyes glanced sideways to the other judges and said ” I do know what I’m talking about”. and then cast ÿour vote, followed by a said oh shit, sorry”, to the judges… Mel B you clearly dont have a clue or you would not have reacted the way you did.

  4. I thought AV were great singers but not sure who their market would be.

As someone else said – being a great singer doesn’t mean you will be a successful artist!

  5. @ Rach. Are you serious with that comment? You and everyone else on this site should know that its not necessarily about the singing its more about the looks and Audio Vixen didn’t have the looks, i can think of one good reason why, but i will let you figure it out. Anyway judges on these shows can change their minds its not like they are beholden to their first opinions, i mean we don’t live in the Dr Who world at least not yet anyway. If Audio Vixen is to make it then they will have encourage the third member and she know who she is to loos some weight and tone up more, not being insensitive their just being real and honest.

  6. wow, i missed it but i cant believe this happened. i cant believe mel chose that option which in turn kept johnny. she has been his biggest hater and yet this happens. :/

    too bad, i liked AV!

  7. That picture of the other three mentors/judges staring at Mel B is priceless. It looked like they ganged up on her or something similar. As for not being able to count well everyone has one of those nights or days on the job when you cant do the simplest things right. I say lets move on and focus on the show.

  8. The public vote wanted AV gone so good result in the end. Live TV is good and Mel B has a real personality unlike some of the fluffy judges that are on this type of show…..

  9. Unbelievable. Mel B told Audio Vixen on Monday night that they were good enough to have their own show in Vegas, she was the only judge who didn’t want Johnny to go further than the audition, yet she votes for Johnny to stay over Audio Vixen.

  10. I didn’t vote for audio vixen. Never have voted for my fave acts in these kinds of shows. Wish I had now but it does make me wonder if the demographic they prob appeal to most (gen x maybe?) don’t bother voting much generally.

  11. I’m glad Audio Vixen was eliminated. They are extremely boring and un-marketable. Just because they have good voices doesn’t mean they have what the show wants. I could go on for hours on how many people from Idol with good voices have failed miserably in the real world.

  12. Is it just me……
What ever way she voted result would be the same, wouldn’t it.
    1. she voted for ruffo AV would be gone.
    2. she voted for AV and they are gone.
