Further to Nine’s broadcasting of the Rugby World Cup live in HD on GEM this weekend, here are the details of the Trans Tasman Test Australia v New Zealand tomorrow.

It’s a massive Australia-New Zealand double-header this Sunday as rugby league and rugby union provide two sizzling sporting clashes LIVE on Channel Nine and simulcast in HD on GEM.

Super Sunday is shaping as the most epic day in the history of sport between Australia and New Zealand with the Trans Tasman rugby league test and the Rugby World Cup semi-final.

And to whet the appetite of football fans before the fireworks on Sunday, Wales play France in the first Rugby World Cup semi-final on Saturday at Eden Park. This game will be shown live on Nine from 6.30pm AEDT.

On Sunday the Kangaroos play New Zealand in the Trans Tasman rugby league test at Ausgrid Stadium in Newcastle. Wide World of Sports will broadcast the game LIVE at 3.30pm AEDT on Channel Nine and simulcast it LIVE in HD on GEM.

Leading the commentary team is Ray Warren, with Australian legends Peter Sterling, Wally Lewis and Andrew Johns on the expert panel. Nine will also catch up pre-game with Manly’s premiership winning half-back and Kangaroo debutant, Daly Cherry-Evans.

Then the Rugby World Cup second semi-final between the Wallabies and the All Blacks gets underway LIVE on Nine from 6.30pm AEDT. The do-or-die clash will also be simulcast LIVE in HD on GEM.

George Gregan heads up the Wide World of Sports expert rugby panel LIVE from Auckland. Joining him for both Rugby World Cup semi-finals are Wallabies legends and former captains Andrew Slack and John Eales, along with injured test prop Benn Robinson. 1. It’s good they are finally doing this. It’s interesting that the biggest sporting events that Nine broadcast, i.e. State of Origin, NRL Grand Final, which were only seen in SD, they are only utilising their HD channel for simulcasting sport again after Seven simulcasted the Bathurst 1000 on 7mate. I’m beginning to think maybe that pulled some weight.

  2. @Michael – Nein has to say “check your local guides” for All of their scheduling these days, as they’re making it up on the spot… (and I missed the “cricket ball” image, but again, kinda fitting as it’s Nein – they could show Anything come 3:30 tomorrow…) 🙂

  3. dave and others, this article has nothing to do with rugby. rugby is the boring as bat shit game played by 15 players a side where a play that involves a kick out of play and a line out is regarded as excitin. This article is about rugby league, the greatest game of all.

Anyway, nine are pathetic. Tim Gilbert is on today this morning and says that the game will be on nine tommorrow, check your local guides. how about saying something like “the game will be live across the country on 9 and in high definition on GEM from 3:30 eastern standard time so make sure you tune in”. NFI at nine, seriously.

  4. I am actually based in W.A. I have loved the coverage all Aussie games have been live here and all of the other big matches eg England v Scotland. So dunno why the coverage has been crucified. We have had great Live rugby.

    Whats the issue????

  5. I’ve gotta give Nine some credit (albeit a month late) for using its own team in NZ to call the game, even if it is Ray Hadley. Considering Nine sees itself at “the home of the best”, using the host broadcaster’s commentary has not been a good look.

  6. @Armchair Analyst

Cnannel 9 always film in HD as the replays on Fox Sports HD are HD. NZ viewers also get 9’s footy games in HD.

9 just never show Australians HD. Lets hope they show the cricket in HD.

  7. So is it possible for GEM exclusively to only show the sport in HD and then when the ads come through to have GEM programs advertised, then on Nine to do different programming and have just Ch 9 ads (hope you know what I mean ?)

  8. This is excellent news however will the Australia v New Zealand rugbyleague match be filmed in hd if not i dont see the point in broadcasting it in HD. Still good news.

  9. Cricket Ball??
    It’s a Rugby Test.
Either Way it’s good to see FTA showing sport on HD. Hopefully it’s a pre-cursor to the Cricket being show on GEM this season..
